One of Tennessee’s opponents this season is already in rough shape, and Arkansas fans are showing it.
The Razorbacks made a coaching change this offseason, bringing in Memphis’ Ryan Silverfield after interim head coach Bobby Petrino finished out last year. Arkansas opened with a 31-14 win over North Alabama in Week 1, but the optimism didn’t last long.
Last weekend in Salt Lake City, Utah hammered the Razorbacks 43-10. Now the schedule turns even uglier with No.
2 Georgia coming to Fayetteville this weekend.
The mood around the program has turned sour fast. A lot of the anger is aimed at Silverfield, but there’s plenty of frustration directed at athletics director Hunter Yurachek, too. Arkansas basketball is rolling under John Calipari, but football has slipped behind in the SEC, and the fanbase is reacting like it knows it.
A clip from Grind City Media in Memphis captured the sentiment around Fayetteville. Fans are talking about emptying the stadium this weekend, showing up with sacks over their heads, or turning the game into a blacked-out “funeral” for the football program. A local Fayetteville golf course is even offering specials for people who’d rather hit the links on Saturday than go to the game.

The road ahead looks brutal. Four of Arkansas’ next six games come against No.
2 Georgia, No. 9 Texas A&M, No.
15 Tennessee, and No. 20 Missouri.
Auburn and South Carolina are also on the schedule, both trying to climb into the Top 25, and the season finishes with No. 7 LSU and No.
1 Texas.
The one spot where Arkansas is likely to be favored is Tulsa, which comes after the Georgia game.
Josh Pate summed up the situation last weekend in blunt terms.
“Arkansas opened up 3-0 (against Utah), and that’s where the good news ends,” Pate said on Sunday. “Utah went on to hang 43 unanswered.
Arkansas has lost seven straight road games. They’ve lost 12 straight regular season games versus FBS competition.
Their current win total at FanDuel is 3.5. And to be honest, I have no clue where FanDuel is finding three wins for ’em, much less four.
So that thing is heavily juiced to the under, but not heavy enough.”
Tennessee’s last trip to Arkansas didn’t go well either, with the Vols falling 19-14 in the 2024 season. Arkansas fans stormed the field after that upset, but it’s hard to picture this year’s meeting following the same script.
Tennessee should be in position to handle Arkansas on Oct. 10, and the Vols will likely enter that matchup as a heavy favorite. For now, though, Fayetteville is dealing with a fanbase that’s out of patience and running out of hope.
