Andrew Jackson Stuns With Bold Statement as Tennessee's New LEOs Coach

Veteran coach Andrew Jackson returns to the SEC, bringing experience and mentorship to Tennessee's eager LEOs squad.

Tennessee's football program is buzzing with the addition of Andrew Jackson as the new LEOs coach. Jackson, who brings a wealth of experience from his time in the SEC and beyond, is set to make a significant impact on the Vols' defensive line.

Jackson's journey back to the SEC is marked by his impressive track record. His stint at Mississippi State in 2018, working with future NFL stars Jeffrey Simmons and Montez Sweat, was a pivotal moment in his career.

That experience propelled him to roles at James Madison and Old Dominion, before landing a Power 4 assistant coaching position at West Virginia. There, he played a crucial role in developing talents like Dante Stills, who became a two-time All-Big 12 first-team selection.

After a successful run at West Virginia, Jackson returned to Penn State, where he reconnected with defensive coordinator Jim Knowles. This reunion led him to Knoxville, along with two promising transfers, Xavier Gilliam and Chaz Coleman.

During his introduction as Tennessee's new LEOs coach, Jackson shared insights into his journey and the support he's received from Knowles, especially following a personal loss. "The opportunity to work with Coach Knowles again was significant for me," Jackson said.

"He helped me through a tough time after my mom passed. Joining Tennessee and working with Coach Heupel and Coach Garner is a fantastic opportunity."

Jackson's experience with Chaz Coleman at Penn State highlights his ability to recognize raw talent. "Chaz played with a fearlessness that caught our attention," Jackson noted. "His hustle and effort stood out, and he showed no fear against more seasoned players."

Looking ahead to spring practices, Jackson is optimistic about the LEO room. "They're young and inexperienced, but eager to learn and very competitive," he observed. "It's a group with a lot of good football minds."

Jackson also praised Jim Knowles, describing him as a dynamic leader who balances toughness with a big personality. "He's a perfect leader of men, someone you want to be around," Jackson said.

The Vols' defensive staff is a melting pot of experience and talent, featuring seasoned coaches like Rodney Garner and William Inge. Jackson appreciates the collaborative environment, emphasizing the lack of egos and the shared commitment to success.

"Everyone's here for the right reasons," he said. "We just want to win."

With Jackson on board, Tennessee's defense is poised for an exciting transformation, blending fresh talent with seasoned coaching expertise.
