Alyssa Latham Picks New Home After Lady Vols Exit

Alyssa Latham takes her talents to Virginia Tech, leaving the Lady Vols with a fresh lineup dynamic as she enters as a grad transfer.

Alyssa Latham is making a big move in her basketball journey. After two seasons with the Lady Vols, she's decided to transfer to Virginia Tech as a grad transfer. This decision comes after Latham entered the transfer portal, and she's set to bring her talents to a new stage with one season of eligibility left.

Latham's time at Tennessee saw her play under head coach Kim Caldwell, with Roman Tubner as her primary recruiter. Before joining the Lady Vols, she spent her freshman year at Syracuse.

This past season, she appeared in 27 games, starting 16 of them. She averaged 4.7 points per game, shooting an impressive 53.9% from the field, though her three-point shooting stood at 21.1%.

Additionally, she contributed 3.4 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game.

The Lady Vols wrapped up their season with a 16-14 record, going 8-8 in SEC play. They entered the SEC Tournament as the 6-seed but were knocked out by Alabama in the second round.

Their NCAA Tournament run was cut short with a loss to NC State in the Round of 64 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The season ended on a challenging note, with the team losing eight straight games and 11 of their last 13.

Latham isn't the only one departing from Tennessee. She's one of six players entering the transfer portal, including four of the five freshmen from last year's class: Deniya Prawl, Lauren Hurst, and twins Mia and Mya Pauldo.

Kaniya Boyd is also leaving. As it stands, Talaysia Cooper and freshman Jaida Civil haven't announced their plans yet.

Meanwhile, the Lady Vols have secured two incoming freshmen, five-star Oliviyah Edwards and four-star Gabby Minus, who are set to join the program.
