Alabama Just Lost A Huge Piece Before Tennessee Showdown

Alabama's offensive strategies will face a crucial test against Tennessee as they navigate the absence of standout receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams.

Alabama will be without its top wide receiver when it faces Tennessee on Saturday afternoon.

Ryan Coleman-Williams was listed as “OUT” on the SEC Availability Report on Wednesday night, meaning the Crimson Tide will have to line up against the Vols without the player who leads the team in receiving yards and touchdowns.

Coleman-Williams is working through a lingering lower-body injury, and Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer said Monday that the receiver is also dealing with a head issue after taking a hit against Georgia last weekend.

“Ryan has got a couple things going on,” Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer said on Monday. “Got to work through an injury with his knee that’s been kind of going on.

We’ll deal with that. Got the head issue, as well.

Gonna address that, even the lower extremity there, this week. Pretty good chance we wouldn’t have him here this weekend.

Probably be week-to-week after that.”

Coleman-Williams has been central to Alabama’s passing game through six games. He has 23 catches for 415 yards and four touchdowns, and while his reception total is tied with teammate Lotzeir Brooks, he still sits first on the Crimson Tide in yards and scores.

The numbers back up how much trouble he’s caused Tennessee in recent seasons, too. Against the Vols last year, Coleman-Williams finished with five catches for 87 yards and a rushing attempt for 16 yards in Alabama’s win. In his freshman season, he posted eight receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown in a loss to Tennessee.

That history sits inside a matchup that’s been evenly split lately. Alabama and Tennessee have split their last four meetings, with each team winning twice at home. The Crimson Tide beat Joey Aguilar’s Tennessee squad 37-20 in Tuscaloosa last season.

Both teams come in at 5-1. Tennessee has wins over Furman, Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State, Auburn, and Arkansas.

Alabama’s victories have come against East Carolina, Kentucky, Florida State, South Carolina, and Mississippi State. The Crimson Tide’s lone loss came against Georgia last weekend in Tuscaloosa by a field goal.

Tennessee is 2-3 against Alabama during the Josh Heupel era, while Heupel is 1-1 against Kalen DeBoer’s Crimson Tide. The Vols won in 2022 and 2024, and Alabama won in 2021, 2023, and 2025.

No. 14 Tennessee will host No.

6 Alabama on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET in Neyland Stadium.

Tennessee's Alabama Quarterback Decision Suddenly Feels A Lot More Urgent

Tennessee heads into its rivalry matchup with Alabama still sorting out its most important position. Faizon Brandon opened the season as the starter, but George MacIntyre got the nod next and made a strong first impression in the win over Arkansas, giving Josh Heupel something real to weigh as the stakes rise.

Heupel has not said who will start against Alabama, and that silence has only sharpened the attention around the decision. A film analyst has already made the case for MacIntyre to keep the job based on what he showed against Arkansas, but with Alabama next on the schedule, Tennessee does not have much time left to settle on its answer. Peyton Manning Just Gave Tennessee Fans A New Reason To Love Alabama Week

Peyton Manning has found a fresh way to lean into one of college footballs loudest rivalries. Ahead of the upcoming Tennessee-Alabama game, the former Vols quarterback teamed up with country singer Riley Green on a new song built around the matchup, giving fans another bit of hype to carry into Alabama week.

The project goes beyond a quick cameo, too, with Manning involved throughout the track rather than just popping in for a spoken line. For Tennessee fans, it is the kind of crossover that fits the moment: a familiar face, a rivalry game and a new tune aimed squarely at the buildup before kickoff. [Read more 🡒]

Tennessee Fighting To Keep Key Receiver Commit From SEC Push

Tennessees 2027 receiver group already has some real juice with five-star David Gabriel-Georges and four-star wideout Kesean Bowman committed, but the Vols are now having to defend that class a little earlier than they might have expected. Bowman remains pledged to Tennessee, yet reports say Ole Miss is pushing hard to change that, and it is the kind of SEC recruiting battle that can tighten up quickly when a talented pass catcher starts drawing more attention.

What makes the situation worth watching is the cast around Bowman, including his high school quarterback Crew Jenkins and Ole Miss commits who are part of the effort to sway him. Tennessee has held onto the commitment for now, but with Early National Signing Day still ahead, this is one of those recruiting stories that could keep developing before the Vols get to lock everything in.
