Titans Target Texans Coach as Saleh Builds New Staff

New Titans head coach Robert Saleh is exploring familiar connections as he builds out his staff, starting with a key defensive coordinator candidate.

Robert Saleh is officially at the helm in Tennessee, and the work of assembling a new-look Titans coaching staff is already underway. One of the first major moves on the defensive side of the ball? The team is interviewing Texans defensive backs coach Dino Vasso for the defensive coordinator position, according to reports.

Vasso brings a decade-plus of NFL experience to the table, including the last five seasons with Houston. Under head coach DeMeco Ryans-who knows Saleh well from their time together in San Francisco-Vasso helped shape a Texans secondary that played a key role in the team’s defensive resurgence. That connection between Saleh and Ryans could be more than just a footnote here; it speaks to the kind of coaching tree Saleh is tapping into as he builds his vision in Tennessee.

Before his time in Houston, Vasso also logged stints with the Eagles and Chiefs, giving him a well-rounded resume that spans multiple systems and philosophies. He’s seen what works-and what doesn’t-across different organizations, which could be invaluable as the Titans look to reshape their identity on defense.

Still, while the defensive coordinator hire is important, the spotlight in Tennessee is going to shine brightest on the other side of the ball. The development of quarterback Cam Ward is the defining project of this new era.

Saleh’s choice at offensive coordinator will be pivotal-not just for Ward’s growth, but for the trajectory of the entire franchise. If they get that hire right, it sets the foundation for everything else.

For now, though, the pieces are starting to fall into place. Saleh is building his staff with familiar faces and proven minds. And in Dino Vasso, the Titans could be adding a coach who’s ready to take the next step-and help Tennessee’s defense do the same.
