Titans Target Former Cardinals Coach in Sunday Interview for Top Job

The Titans are exploring a familiar defensive mind for their head coaching vacancy as they prepare to meet with Jonathan Gannon on Sunday.

The Tennessee Titans are lining up an interview with former Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon as they continue their search for a new head coach, according to multiple reports. The meeting is expected to take place Sunday, and it comes as no surprise-Gannon had already been linked to the Titans’ vacancy earlier in the week.

Gannon’s name has been circulating in coaching circles since his departure from Arizona, and while he’s also being considered for defensive coordinator roles with both the Cowboys and Commanders, the Titans are clearly looking at him as a potential leader for their next chapter.

At 42, Gannon brings a résumé that’s seen just about every corner of the NFL coaching landscape. He broke into the league back in 2007 with the Falcons as a defensive quality control coach, took a detour as a scout with the Rams from 2009 to 2011, and then returned to the sideline with coaching stops in Tennessee and Minnesota.

His work with defensive backs in Indianapolis from 2018 to 2020 helped elevate that Colts secondary, and it earned him a shot as the Eagles’ defensive coordinator in 2021. Just two years later, Arizona hired him as their head coach.

Things didn’t pan out in the desert. Gannon’s three-year run with the Cardinals ended after the 2025 season, with a 15-36 record and no playoff appearances to show for it.

But that doesn’t tell the full story. While the win-loss column wasn’t kind, there were stretches-especially early on-where his defenses played above expectations, often outpacing the offense in terms of consistency and competitiveness.

That defensive pedigree is exactly why he remains a hot name in this hiring cycle. Whether it’s as a coordinator or a head coach, Gannon’s ability to build and lead a defense has kept him in the mix. For a Titans team in transition, bringing in someone with experience on both sides of the ball and a history within the organization could be a compelling move.

We’ll see how the interview unfolds, but one thing’s clear: Gannon isn’t staying on the market for long.
