Just as news broke that Arthur Smith is heading to Ohio State to take over as offensive coordinator, another potential candidate for the Tennessee Titans' OC role came off the board.
Bobby Slowik, who had been floated as a possible fit in Nashville, is staying put in Miami. According to Ian Rapoport, Slowik has been promoted from passing game coordinator to offensive coordinator under new Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley. While there was no public word of an interview with the Titans, Slowik’s name had been in the mix during early speculation.
That makes three potential options who are now off the table since Robert Saleh was hired. With Slowik, Smith, and another unnamed candidate now committed elsewhere, the Titans' search continues - and the list of big-name possibilities is starting to narrow.
At this point, two prominent names remain in the conversation: Brian Daboll and Kliff Kingsbury.
Daboll is currently in the running for both the Buffalo Bills’ head coaching job and the Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive coordinator spot. But if he doesn’t land the top job in Buffalo, he’s widely viewed as a leading candidate in Tennessee. His offensive background, especially his time developing Josh Allen, makes him an intriguing fit for a Titans team looking to reboot its offense under a new regime.
Kingsbury, meanwhile, has been linked to the Eagles as well. He also recently interviewed with the Baltimore Ravens for their head coaching vacancy after parting ways with the Washington Commanders. Known for his quarterback-friendly schemes and vertical passing concepts, Kingsbury could bring a different flavor to the Titans’ offense - assuming he’s still on the board when Tennessee makes its move.
The Titans are clearly taking their time with this hire, and with a few dominoes already falling, the next few days could be telling. The pool of candidates may be shrinking, but the names still in play are capable of bringing a serious spark to a team in transition.
