Titans Sign Wan'Dale Robinson but One Big Move Still Awaits

Despite a splashy signing and key improvements, the Titans face a pivotal decision to bolster their defense in their quest for AFC South dominance.

The Tennessee Titans have just added a new spark to Broadway, signing the dynamic Wan’Dale Robinson to a hefty four-year, $70 million deal. General manager Mike Borgonzi is clearly signaling a shift away from the old-school, grind-it-out style. Robinson is a versatile playmaker who can turn even the simplest play into a highlight-reel moment, making him an exciting addition for offensive coordinator Brian Daboll.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves. While Robinson's signing is a headline-grabber, it’s just the beginning. The Titans have been stuck in a rut for a few years now, and the 2026 season will be pivotal.

Looking back at 2025, it was a season to forget for Titans fans. A rough 3-14 record led to the dismissal of head coach Brian Callahan after a 1-5 start.

Interim coach Mike McCoy didn’t fare much better, as the team struggled with quarterback Cam Ward’s development. Despite flashes of his potential, Ward spent much of the season evading defenders, thanks to a shaky offensive line.

Defensively, Jeffery Simmons was a standout, but the unit couldn't consistently pressure opponents, and the secondary was prone to giving up big plays. By Week 13, it was clear a major overhaul was needed.

Borgonzi and the Titans have been busy in free agency, armed with a league-leading $135 million in cap space. They’ve made strategic moves, including strengthening the offensive line with Cordell Volson and Austin Schlottmann, ensuring better protection for Ward.

On defense, they've added key players like John Franklin-Myers and Alontae Taylor, and bolstered special teams with punter Tommy Townsend. The addition of tight end Daniel Bellinger further rounds out the roster, turning Tennessee into a team to watch.

However, the Titans still face a glaring issue: the need for a dominant edge rusher. Trading T'Vondre Sweat for Jermaine Johnson was a good start, but one elite pass rusher isn't enough to transform the defense. The Titans should aim to sign Joey Bosa, a proven disruptor who could make a significant impact.

While they've added depth with players like Jacob Martin and Malik Herring, they need another top-tier threat to complement Johnson and prevent teams from focusing solely on Simmons. Bosa could be the game-changer, creating the pressure needed to force turnovers and disrupt opposing offenses. In a division featuring quarterbacks like CJ Stroud and Trevor Lawrence, a strong pass rush is crucial.

The strategy is straightforward: even the best secondary can't hold up if the quarterback has too much time. The Titans’ defense has thrived when able to generate pressure with just four rushers, allowing the secondary to play aggressively.

Pairing Bosa with Johnson and Simmons would create a formidable defensive front in the AFC South. With the current cap space, the Titans can afford to make a bold move without jeopardizing future flexibility. Signing Bosa would send a clear message that the Titans are ready to compete at the highest level.

The acquisition of Wan’Dale Robinson is a step in the right direction, giving Cam Ward a reliable target. But the work isn’t done yet.

Borgonzi has the tools to turn the Titans into playoff contenders. The offense now has the speed it needs, and the secondary has been reinforced with experienced players.

It’s time to complete the transformation in the trenches. If the Titans don’t secure a top-tier edge rusher like Bosa, they risk falling short.

The fans deserve better after years of rebuilding. With cap space available and expectations rising, it’s time for the front office to make the decisive move that could redefine the franchise’s future.
