Robert Saleh didn’t hide where he stood after the Titans cut Jordan Elliott.
Speaking to reporters after the release, Tennessee’s head coach went out of his way to defend the defensive tackle’s character, even while acknowledging the mistake that ended his time with the team. Saleh said, “These kids go through a lot.
I will stand on the table for Jordan’s character. My message to 31 other teams: If you need a hell of a run-stopping DT that can help for a playoff run, give me a call.
I'll tell you everything you need to know about him. He’s a good man.
Had a terrible lapse in judgment,” Saleh said during media availability.
He also described Elliott as a father who works hard, and suggested the gun incident may have been a “small sign of a cry for help.”
The move came after Elliott reportedly tried to get a gun from his car during an altercation with one of his teammates last week. The teammate was JC Latham, and Elliott went to the parking lot to retrieve the weapon. Per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the gun never left the parking lot.
That detail matters under NFL rules, which prohibit anyone from possessing firearms at team or league facilities, along with hotels, planes, stadiums and buses.
Elliott had signed a two-year deal with the Titans worth up to $8.5 million in the offseason. He also spent the previous two seasons playing for Saleh with the San Francisco 49ers, which helps explain why the coach spoke so strongly in his defense.
Tennessee enters Week 7 at 1-5 and is scheduled to meet the Cleveland Browns.

Robert Salehs Public Plea After Titans Release Will Turn Heads
The Titans decision to release defensive tackle Jordan Elliott after a firearm-related incident at the team facility quickly turned into more than just another roster move. It also drew a rare public response from head coach Robert Saleh, who characterized the episode as a lapse in judgment while also suggesting it may have been a cry for help. For a team trying to move forward, the situation underscored how quickly an off-field matter can reshape the conversation around a player and the organization.
Saleh went a step further by urging other NFL teams to think about giving Elliott another chance, a notable show of support at a moment when the league is still reviewing the incident. Elliotts next step is unclear, and his future in the NFL now hinges on how teams weigh the seriousness of what happened against the possibility of a second opportunity. [Read more 🡒]
Titans Suddenly Have A Big Alontae Taylor Decision Looming
Alontae Taylors Week 6 status was a notable one for the Titans, even before the rest of the league started thinking ahead to the NFL trade deadline. Robert Saleh made the coaching decision to keep the cornerback a healthy inactive, a move that immediately added another layer to a situation already worth monitoring in Tennessee.
Now the broader picture is coming into focus, with ESPNs Jeremy Fowler reporting that Taylor has emerged as a sleeper trade target. Any deal would come with complications because of his contract and the financial side of the equation, which leaves Tennessee with a decision to weigh rather than a clear path to take. The Titans could explore moving him, but they are under no obligation to do so. [Read more 🡒]
Titans Release Jordan Elliott After Frightening Incident At Team Facility
The Titans moved quickly to part ways with defensive tackle Jordan Elliott after a frightening incident at the team facility that turned a routine practice day into something far more serious. According to the account, Elliott retrieved a gun from his car after an altercation during practice, but he was talked down before anyone was hurt, leaving the organization to deal with a situation that crossed well beyond football.
Robert Saleh addressed the episode in a press conference and described it as a cry for help, while also vouching for Elliott's character. Even with that support, the Titans made the decision to release him, underscoring how volatile the moment was and how much bigger the fallout is than any on-field issue the team might face this week.
