The Tennessee Titans walked into MetLife Stadium on Sunday still chasing their first win of the 2026 NFL season, but the first half against the New York Giants offered little reason for optimism on offense.
At the break, Tennessee trailed 9-0, and the scoreboard told only part of the story. The Titans’ defense did enough to keep the game within reach, even with the Giants landing a few explosive plays and getting into the red zone. Without that effort, the margin could have been much worse.
The real trouble came on the other side of the ball. Offensive coordinator Brian Daboll’s group never found a rhythm, and the unit looked completely out of sync. Tennessee opened the half with five three-and-outs in six possessions, managed only 32 total yards on 15 plays, and picked up just one first down.
Cam Ward finished the half 7 of 13 for 41 yards. Tony Pollard was held to 11 rushing yards on five carries. No. 4 overall pick Carnell Tate had one catch for six yards, while Wan’Dale Robinson led the team with three receptions for 23 yards and also had a drop.
There was one brief flicker late in the half, but it went nowhere after Joey Slye missed a 59-yard field goal.
The Titans also had to deal with an early injury blow on the offensive line. Starting right guard Fernando Carmona, the rookie from Arkansas, went down on the opening play and was carted off.
Jackson Slater stepped in at right guard. Carmona is officially questionable to return with an ankle injury, though the cart made a comeback today seem unlikely.
For a Tennessee offense that has already been struggling badly this season, losing a starter up front only made the situation worse. If the Titans can’t start stringing together drives, they’ll have a hard time digging out of this one - and a 0-3 start is staring them in the face.

Titans Already Have An Uncomfortable Cam Ward Question
Cam Wards first stretch as the Titans franchise quarterback has not given the team much comfort. Since going first overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, he has battled through a rough opening run that has left him near the bottom of several passing categories, and the backdrop around him has not made the job easier. Tennessee has been working with an inexperienced receiving group, while the coaching situation has not offered much stability for a young passer trying to find his footing.
Still, the longer this goes on, the harder it becomes to separate Wards development from the organizations future planning. Sports Illustrateds Albert Breer raised the possibility that if the losses keep piling up, Tennessee could eventually be looking at quarterback again in the 2027 NFL Draft, which is the kind of conversation no team wants to be having this early with a player taken first overall.
