The Tennessee Titans have moved on from Will Levis.
On Sunday, the team waived the quarterback, ending his three-year run in Tennessee, a team source confirmed. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.
Levis arrived as the 33rd pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, but his time with the Titans never settled into anything resembling stability. Over the 2023 and 2024 seasons, he went 5-16 and threw for 3,899 yards with 21 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.
This summer offered only a small chance to reset the story, and he didn’t do enough with it. In three preseason games, Levis completed 21 of 39 passes for 200 yards, with no touchdowns and no interceptions.
He also rushed for 38 yards.
That wasn’t enough to hold off the rest of Tennessee’s quarterback room. The Titans now have 2025 top draft pick Cam Ward in place, and 31-year-old Mitch Trubisky is expected to be Ward’s backup.
Levis’ final regular-season appearance came on Dec. 15, 2024, in a 37-27 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. That night turned into a rough one fast: he committed four turnovers, threw his fourth pick six of the season and was benched.
A few months later, the Titans drafted Ward and kicked off a young quarterback competition. Levis never got a real chance to rejoin that race after missing the entire 2025 season following surgery to repair the AC joint in his throwing shoulder.
Even with the setbacks, Levis sounded convinced earlier this summer that he still belonged in an NFL quarterback room. In early August, he said, “there aren’t 32 quarterbacks in this league better than me.
I know that for sure. I know I’ve put the tape out there already.”
There may still be a path for him somewhere else. But in Tennessee, the margin for error disappeared after the Titans hired new head coach Robert Saleh and first-year offensive coordinator Brian Daboll during the offseason. Levis entered camp on the final year of the four-year, $9.54 million rookie deal he signed in 2023.
The Titans are now set to head into the 2026 season with Ward at the center of everything. He already owns franchise rookie quarterback records for passing yards, with 3,169, and fewest interceptions, with seven, while adding 15 touchdown passes last season. Tennessee, though, finished 3-14.
