The Tennessee Titans didn’t need a masterpiece from Cam Ward to get back in the win column. They just needed enough.
That’s exactly what they got in a 26-20 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, a game that gave coach Robert Saleh his first win with the franchise. Ward’s day was uneven, but it was enough to help Tennessee pull out the result in Week 6.
The box score, though, was ugly. According to NFL on FOX, Ward became the fifth quarterback since 2024 to start and finish a game, attempt 20 or more passes, throw for fewer than 105 yards and still come away with a win. The other four quarterbacks on that list - Bryce Young, Jalen Hurts, Bo Nix and Caleb Williams - have all had strong runs so far.
Ward’s 102 passing yards also stood out for another reason. Shawn Syed of Sumer Sports noted that it was the fewest by any quarterback in a winning effort this season.
Still, Tennessee had more than enough help around him. The Titans’ defense made life miserable for Colts quarterback Daniel Jones, piling up six sacks and giving Saleh the kind of performance he could point to as he continues trying to steady the team. Saleh, whose defensive background goes back to his days with the 49ers and Texans, said he was pleased with what the unit put on tape, even if there is still plenty to clean up.
For Tennessee, the timing mattered. The win came as Saleh was dealing with growing Cam Ward panic in Tennessee, and while Ward didn’t look like a quarterback living up to his draft billing, he was part of a victory the Titans can try to build on.

Titans Win Brought A New Concern About Alontae Taylor
The Titans finally snapped their 10-game losing streak with a win over the Colts, but the postgame mood came with a fresh layer of uncertainty around Alontae Taylor. The cornerback was made inactive even though he was healthy, a decision that stood out on a day when Tennessee was trying to stabilize both its record and its rotation in the secondary.
Head coach Robert Saleh did not offer much clarity afterward, which only added to the intrigue around Taylors standing on the roster. His move to outside cornerback has been a rough one so far, with opposing quarterbacks completing 87.5% of the passes thrown his way through the first five games, and now the bigger question is whether this was just a one-week decision or a sign of something more lasting. Carnell Tate May Be Giving Titans Offense Exactly What It Needed
Carnell Tates recent touchdown gave the Titans a much-needed lift, and it came with a familiar theme: steady work finally showing up on game day. The rookie wide receiver said his preparation has been consistent, and for a Tennessee offense that has been searching for any spark, that kind of reliability matters as much as any single play. The first win of the season gave the locker room something tangible to build on, even if the bigger picture is still taking shape.
For a team trying to find its footing, Tates emergence offers a useful sign that the offense may not need to be reinvented so much as sharpened. Preparation, timing and trust can go a long way when a unit is looking for traction, and Tennessee could use more of the same from a receiver who seems to be settling into his role. The challenge now is turning one encouraging moment into something the Titans can count on week after week. [Read more 🡒]
Colts Just Sent A Brutal Message About This Teams Future
The aftermath of the Colts Week 6 loss to the Titans has already turned into a major organizational shakeup, with Indianapolis moving on from general manager Chris Ballard in his 10th season. It is a stark development for a division rival that has spent years trying to rebuild its way back into relevance, only to keep running into the same familiar frustrations: no playoff return, lingering questions about the roster, and a front office under increasing pressure to justify its decisions.
For Tennessee, the timing adds another layer to a win that already carried meaning inside the AFC South. The Colts decision, first reported by Jonathan Jones of The Athletic, reflects how thin the margin had become around Ballards tenure and how much scrutiny had built up over the trades and draft picks made under his watch. Even with the Titans not directly making the move, it is the kind of rival update that says plenty about how the division is shifting around them. [Read more 🡒]
