Titans Fans Have An Uncomfortable Early Draft Reality

As Week 6 approaches, the Tennessee Titans lead the race for the 2027 NFL Draft's top pick, while the New York Jets wield substantial influence with three selections in the top 12.

The first five weeks of the NFL season have already started to carve out the 2027 draft picture, and the top of the board is beginning to take shape. Three teams are still without a win, and that has pushed the Tennessee Titans into the lead for the No. 1 overall pick.

Tennessee sits in the driver’s seat because it owns the tiebreaker over the Los Angeles Chargers and Miami Dolphins based on strength of schedule. The Chargers and Dolphins are right behind the Titans, all three stuck at 0-5.

Just outside that group are the Houston Texans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who would round out the top five if the draft order held as is. The Arizona Cardinals and New Orleans Saints follow at Nos. 6 and 7, with the Washington Commanders at No. 8.

One of the biggest quirks in the current order is how much the New York Jets are showing up near the top. They currently own three picks inside the top 12, including No. 9, No. 11 and No. 12, giving them major real estate in the first round.

Here’s how the updated 2027 NFL Draft order looks after Week 5, according to Tankathon.com:

  1. Tennessee Titans (0-5)
  2. Los Angeles Chargers (0-5)
  3. Miami Dolphins (0-5)
  4. Houston Texans (1-4)
  5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-4)
  6. Arizona Cardinals (1-4)
  7. New Orleans Saints (1-4)
  8. Washington Commanders (1-3-1)
  9. New York Jets (from DAL) (2-3)
  10. Philadelphia Eagles (2-3)
  11. New York Jets (from IND) (2-3)
  12. New York Jets (2-3)
  13. Cleveland Browns (from LAR) (2-3)
  14. Atlanta Falcons (2-3)
  15. Cincinnati Bengals (3-2)
  16. Pittsburgh Steelers (3-2)
  17. Cleveland Browns (3-2)
  18. Seattle Seahawks (3-2)
  19. Carolina Panthers (2-2)
  20. Las Vegas Raiders (3-2)
  21. Dallas Cowboys (from GB) (3-2)
  22. Denver Broncos (3-2)
  23. Chicago Bears (3-2)
  24. New England Patriots (3-2)
  25. Detroit Lions (3-2)
  26. New York Giants (3-1-1)
  27. Jacksonville Jaguars (4-1)
  28. Buffalo Bills (4-1)
  29. Baltimore Ravens (4-1)
  30. Minnesota Vikings (5-0)
  31. Kansas City Chiefs (4-0)
  32. San Francisco 49ers (5-0)

The 2027 NFL Draft is scheduled for Thursday, April 29, through Saturday, May 1, and it will be held at the National Mall outside of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

Titans Front Office Overhaul Is Moving Faster Than Fans Realize

The Titans business-side reset appears to be moving just as quickly as the on-field questions that usually get the attention in Nashville. Jeremy Walls, the Cardinals chief operating officer, is reportedly set to step into the role of executive vice president and chief business officer for Tennessee, a move that would bring in an executive with experience reshaping Arizonas business operations since 2023 and a background that also includes time with the Dolphins.

For a front office already in the middle of a broader restructuring under team president Burke Nihill, the addition signals another notable shift in how the organization is being run behind the scenes. It also comes with an unresolved layer, since Walls is named in a discrimination lawsuit involving the Cardinals that has been sent to arbitration, leaving Tennessees latest personnel move with both practical intrigue and a little extra scrutiny. Titans Need Brian Daboll To Change What Is Failing Cam Ward

The Titans 0-5 start has already put their offense in an uncomfortable place, and the numbers only sharpen the concern. Tennessee is averaging 11.5 points per game, a franchise low and one of the worst openings since the merger, with the running game doing little to keep defenses honest or keep the offense out of obvious passing situations.

For Cam Ward, that has meant too many snaps where the defense knows what is coming. Brian Daboll is now at the center of the conversation about how to change that, with the idea of leaning harder into the pass and even speeding things up with more no-huddle looks if it can help the Titans create easier scoring chances and finally get the offense moving. Jeffery Simmons Suddenly Sits At The Center Of A Titans Debate

The Titans have spent recent trade deadlines acting like sellers, and their place near the bottom of the standings has only sharpened the conversation about how long this rebuild will take. With the No. 1 overall pick in the 2027 NFL Draft already in their pocket, Tennessee has enough long-term draft capital to keep thinking big-picture, but the presence of Jeffery Simmons has complicated the picture. The veteran defensive tackle is coming off a significant contract extension, which usually signals stability, not uncertainty.

Still, in a league where top-tier veterans can bring back major returns, Simmons has become the kind of player who forces hard questions about timeline and value. Moving him would be a drastic step, and one that would carry obvious football and locker-room risks, but it could also fit a front office trying to accelerate a reset. For now, there is no trade or formal decision, only the kind of debate that tends to follow a team when the future arrives faster than expected. [Read more 🡒]
