The Tennessee Titans found a new way to sink themselves Sunday, and the result was a 12-7 loss to the New York Giants that left too many mistakes to count and almost no offense to speak of. Cam Ward had moments where he steadied things, especially in the third and fourth quarters, but the day will be remembered for the errors that buried Tennessee.
The ugliest one came with the game on the line. Ward drove the Titans to 1st-and-goal from the 7-yard line with 24 seconds left, then panicked under pressure and fired an indefensible interception to Giants safety Jevon Holland.
It was a crushing mistake, especially with multiple timeouts still in hand and a short gain available after Ward escaped the pocket. Earlier, he had also missed a wide-open TD to Carnell Tate, and two other would-be interceptions were dropped.
The Titans had a chance to make something out of a 12-play, 68-yard drive after trailing 12-0, but Ward’s third straight incompletion on fourth down left them empty-handed.
That wasn’t the only area where Tennessee fell apart. Special teams, which had been a strength last season, looked shaky across the board.
Joey Slye has had kickoff issues, Tommy Townsend has had punting issues, and Chimere Dike’s opening-kickoff fumble marked his second lost fumble in three games. Dike was All-Pro as a rookie returner, so this start has been a shock.
The unit also drew four penalties, with three accepted.
The offense was just as lifeless in the first half. After the opening kickoff fumble, Tennessee went three-and-out on five straight possessions.
The sixth possession produced a first down, but ended with a missed 59-yard kick that gave the Giants favorable field position. The Titans managed only 54 yards in the first two quarters.
The Giants, with their backup quarterback, had eight first downs and 135 total yards by halftime.
Tennessee also lost rookie right guard Fernando Carmona to an ankle injury on the opening possession. He was later ruled out at halftime and replaced by sophomore Jackson Slater. Carmona had been one of the few positive stories for a winless team, so the injury adds another problem to sort through.
And then there was the clock management. Robert Saleh had his own issues with game management during his time with the New York Jets, and a few of those old headaches showed up again Sunday.
Late in the second quarter, the Giants ran a surrender play on third down, and with the Titans trailing 6-0 and needing the ball back, Saleh waited about 10 seconds before using an obvious timeout. In the second half, Tennessee also had to waste a timeout after somehow lining up with 10 defenders following a Giants timeout.

Titans Already Have An Uncomfortable Cam Ward Question
Cam Wards first stretch as the Titans franchise quarterback has not given the team much comfort. Since going first overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, he has battled through a rough opening run that has left him near the bottom of several passing categories, and the backdrop around him has not made the job easier. Tennessee has been working with an inexperienced receiving group, while the coaching situation has not offered much stability for a young passer trying to find his footing.
Still, the longer this goes on, the harder it becomes to separate Wards development from the organizations future planning. Sports Illustrateds Albert Breer raised the possibility that if the losses keep piling up, Tennessee could eventually be looking at quarterback again in the 2027 NFL Draft, which is the kind of conversation no team wants to be having this early with a player taken first overall.
