Titans Eyeing Former Chiefs Star in Bold Move

Titans eye potential comeback story as veteran tight end Jody Fortson visits, sparking intrigue and competition in Tennessee's lineup.

Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi is making waves this offseason, tapping into familiar waters by bringing in talent from his previous tenure with the Kansas City Chiefs. After more than 15 seasons with the Chiefs, Borgonzi seems to be leveraging his connections, evident in the recent signings of former Chiefs cornerback Joshua Williams and punter Tommy Townsend.

The latest buzz? Veteran tight end Jody Fortson, who recently visited the Titans.

Fortson, sidelined during the 2025 season due to a meniscus and ACL tear, is on the mend and eager to return to the field. The Titans are assessing his health and potential contribution to the team, with Borgonzi’s past familiarity with Fortson undoubtedly influencing the decision.

Fortson’s journey began as an undrafted free agent with the Chiefs post-2019 NFL Draft, a move orchestrated during Borgonzi’s stint as Kansas City’s director of football operations. Fortson’s time with the Chiefs was a rollercoaster, moving between the roster and practice squad over five seasons.

His tenure included three Super Bowl victories and a notable 2022 season with nine receptions for 108 yards and two touchdowns. Despite appearing in just two games in 2021, he snagged two touchdowns, showcasing his knack for making an impact.

After a brief stint with the Miami Dolphins in 2024 that didn’t pan out, Fortson found himself back on the Chiefs’ practice squad before injuries struck again. Now, the Titans’ interest presents Fortson with a golden opportunity to reignite his NFL career.

The Titans’ tight end lineup is already competitive. Gunnar Helm holds the starting position, with Daniel Bellinger recently signed to a substantial deal to fill the gap left by Chig Okonkwo.

Veteran Kylen Granson is also in the mix, vying for a spot alongside David Martin-Robinson. If Fortson joins the squad, he’ll face stiff competition in a packed tight end room.
