The Tennessee Titans are making waves on the pro day circuit, casting a wide net as they scout talent beyond the usual suspects. One name that's catching their eye is Nebraska safety DeShon Singleton, a standout who’s generating buzz for his impressive athleticism.
Singleton, who didn't run at the combine, clocked a 40-yard dash between 4.52 and 4.55 seconds. His vertical leap was an eye-popping 39.5 inches, and he soared 10-foot-10 in the broad jump.
At 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, Singleton showcased his skills in defensive back drills, solidifying his reputation as a formidable presence in the secondary. The league sees him primarily as a zone or strong safety, with no current plans to transition him to linebacker-a position he initially considered.
The Titans, along with the Cincinnati Bengals and New Orleans Saints, have shown significant interest in Singleton, who also made an impression at the Senior Bowl. With new head coach Robert Saleh at the helm, the Titans’ interest is particularly intriguing. Saleh, during his time with the New York Jets, successfully transitioned Jamien Sherwood from an oversized safety to a standout linebacker, hinting at his knack for developing versatile defensive talent.
For the Titans, adding depth to their secondary is a priority after parting ways with Xavier Woods and Mike Brown in the offseason. While they’ve brought in Tony Adams, the need for youthful depth and competition behind Amani Hooker and Kevin Winston Jr. remains. Singleton fits the bill as a late-round developmental prospect, poised to contribute on special teams initially and potentially grow into a more significant defensive role.
