The Tennessee Titans’ offseason has been strong enough to draw praise beyond Nashville, and the reason is pretty clear: they didn’t just chase headline names. They added help at premium spots like EDGE, cornerback and wide receiver, while also trying to build the kind of depth that keeps a roster steady when the injuries and rough stretches hit.
That’s where the Day 3 rookies come in, and one of the more intriguing names is seventh-round pick Jaren Kanak, a tight end out of Oklahoma. He’s the sort of player who could carve out a role by doing the dirty work that doesn’t always show up in the box score.
Last year’s Day 3 group made a real impact. All-Pro Chimere Dike, Gunnar Helm and Elic Ayomanor all grabbed attention, while Marcus Harris did enough to earn a starting role on defense after entering camp as the team’s fifth cornerback. That kind of surprise contribution is exactly what keeps late-round picks relevant once training camp opens.
Kanak is trying to follow that path, and the opportunity is there because David Martin-Robinson has been around as a promising tight end project for years without finding a regular way onto the field outside of special teams. He has 13 tackles in his NFL career, which makes him a useful special-teams piece, but not necessarily a locked-in roster player if someone else can offer more.
That’s where Kanak’s value could show up. If John "Bones" Fassel was on board with the Titans using a draft pick on him for his special teams ability, Kanak could become a quiet but useful addition to a unit the Titans want to keep elite.
And whether Cam Ward turns into a future superstar or not, the formula for this roster is still pretty straightforward: stay elite on special teams and get great on defense. Kanak has a chance to help with that right away, even as a seventh-round pick.
