The Cam Ward conversation in Tennessee has already turned uncomfortable, and Week 3 only poured gasoline on it.
After the Titans’ loss to the New York Giants, Ward is suddenly hearing job-security chatter in his second season, just 17 months after Tennessee made him the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The noise isn’t limited to frustrated fans, either. Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer went there in his Week 3 takeaways, writing, " If the Titans keep losing, and wind up with a high pick again, Cam Ward will have to do more than he’s doing right now to keep them from taking a quarterback."
That’s the reality now: Ward has not come close to proving he’s the franchise answer for the next decade. But the bigger picture matters here, because this mess is not all on him.
Through his first 20 games, Ward has been rough. The numbers back that up.
This season, he ranks 30th in passing success rate, 31st in EPA per pass, and 36th in impact plays, according to SumerSports. And in Week 3, his two red-zone mistakes were the kind that can swing a game all by themselves.
Without them, Tennessee would have escaped with an ugly win over the Giants.
That said, the Titans have made life miserable around him. As a rookie, Ward was thrown into a situation with the most inexperienced receiver group in the league and a coaching staff that was fired in the middle of the season.
He also took sacks as often as any quarterback in football. Outside of the elite tier, that’s a brutal setup for any passer.
Even now, the help hasn’t been good enough. With Carnell Tate and Wan'Dale Robinson added, Ward’s receivers have still let him down too often. Brian Daboll, who arrived with plenty of optimism as Tennessee’s offensive coordinator, still hasn’t given Ward enough easy answers.
So yes, if the Titans are sitting early in the 2027 NFL Draft and a quarterback like Arch Manning is sitting there too, nobody should be shocked if Tennessee considers a reset. Two years of limited production will force that kind of conversation.
If it comes to that, though, the blame would land on the organization more than on Ward.
