Titans Add Two Defenders As One New Arrival Suddenly Stands Out

The Tennessee Titans shake up their roster with key signings Tanoh Kpassagnon and Milo Eifler following a suspension in the wake of critical preseason developments.

The Tennessee Titans had to make a quick adjustment after safety Nazeeh Johnson was handed a six-game suspension for violating the NFL’s Performance-Enhancing Substances Policy. Johnson was expected to help in a depth role, but the Titans still had to reshuffle the roster, and they did it by placing him on Reserve/Injured and releasing tight end Matt Lauter to open the door for two additions.

On Friday, Jim Wyatt reported that Tennessee signed defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon and linebacker Milo Eifler.

The timing is notable. The moves came just ahead of the Titans’ joint practice with the Seattle Seahawks and only two days before the teams meet on Sunday. It’s another late-summer roster tweak for Tennessee as the cut deadline approaches.

Eifler is the simpler case of the two newcomers. The 28-year-old linebacker last appeared in a regular-season game in 2022, when he played in 10 games for the Washington Commanders and finished with four sacks.

He has also had brief stops with the New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, and Atlanta Falcons, and most recently was released by the Arizona Cardinals last May. For Tennessee, he looks like a short-term depth addition at linebacker.

Kpassagnon brings a different kind of résumé. Since entering the league with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2017, he has appeared in every regular season, though not always in a major role. He has topped three sacks in a season three times, including 3.5 with the New Orleans Saints in 2023.

His production dipped sharply after he tore his Achilles in May 2024. Last season with the Chicago Bears, he played in only four games and recorded five total tackles and one sack.

At 32, Kpassagnon isn’t being signed with a huge ceiling attached, but there’s enough there to justify a look in preseason. If he can carve out a smaller role, he could have some staying power in Nashville.

Titans Running Backs Just Got The Disrespect Fans Will Remember

The Titans backfield looks set up for another season built around Tony Pollard, with Tyjae Spears positioned as the primary insurance policy and rookie Nicholas Singleton giving Tennessee a third option in the room. It is a group that still carries some intrigue because of how the offense could lean on the ground game if the passing attack has a hard time finding consistency.

Still, Pro Football Focus preseason ranking landed the Titans running back room at 22nd, a label that will not sit well with a fan base that expects more from one of the leagues most important position groups. The number itself is only part of the story, because Tennessees backs are going to matter plenty if the offense needs them to shoulder a bigger load than the outside perception suggests. Titans Roster Shakeup Puts Unexpected Focus On Their Defensive Depth

The Titans kept their roster moving this week, adding veteran defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon and linebacker Milo Eifler after recent workouts while also making a change at tight end by releasing Matt Lauter. The pair of defensive signings fits the kind of late-summer roster churn that often reveals where a team thinks it needs more insulation, especially when injuries and availability start to reshape the back end of the roster.

Nazeeh Johnsons move to injured reserve adds another wrinkle for Tennessee, coming shortly after he was suspended for six games for violating the NFLs Performance Enhancing Substances policy. With Johnson unavailable and the Titans bringing in players who have already bounced around the league, the emphasis now shifts to how much reliable depth they can build on defense before the season settles in. Titans Camp Battle Is Forcing A Tough O-Line Decision

Training camp has offered the Titans a better look at the offensive line than they had at times last season, with JC Latham and Fernando Carmona drawing attention for the right reasons. The front has shown enough promise to suggest Tennessee may have a workable core, but camp also has a way of making the weak spots stand out, and right guard Cordell Volson and swing tackle Austin Deculus have been among the players under the most scrutiny.

That leaves the Titans weighing whether internal competition is enough or whether they need to make a change before the group is set. One option under consideration is a roster move that could bring Jack Conklin back into the mix as a swing tackle, a possibility that speaks to how seriously Tennessee is treating the depth questions along the edge and inside.
