In a surprising twist that had fans doing double-takes, the Tennessee Titans have signed quarterback Hendon Hooker. This isn’t an April Fool’s prank, folks-Hooker is officially on board. After initially opting for Will Levis over Hooker in the draft, the Titans seem to be making amends with University of Tennessee supporters by bringing the former Vol into the fold.
Now, what does this mean for Levis? With Mitch Trubisky already secured as the backup quarterback earlier in free agency, the Titans’ quarterback room is getting crowded. Carrying four quarterbacks doesn’t make much sense, even in the offseason, which could hint that Levis might be on the trading block.
Hooker, originally a third-round pick by the Detroit Lions in 2023, found himself cut last year and spent time with both the Carolina Panthers and New York Jets. His journey has been a winding one, but now he has a fresh start with the Titans.
The Titans didn’t stop there-they also added running back Michael Carter to their roster. While some speculate this move might signal a shift away from selecting Jeremiyah Love with the fourth pick, it’s more likely that Carter is being brought in to compete for the third running back spot. This signing doesn’t necessarily reveal the Titans’ draft intentions, so the Love speculation remains just that.
Carter, a fourth-round pick by the New York Jets in 2021, has accumulated 1,692 rushing yards over five seasons. His experience will add depth to the Titans’ backfield.
In another roster move, wide receiver Lance McCutcheon has joined the Titans. McCutcheon, who went undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft, has been bouncing around practice squads but now has an opportunity to prove himself in Tennessee.
With these additions, the Titans are clearly reshaping their roster. Whether these moves will lead to significant changes on the field remains to be seen, but one thing's for sure-Titans fans have plenty to talk about.
