Titans Reportedly Set to Unveil First Major Logo Change Since 1999
Change is coming to Nashville - and it’s not just on the field.
For the first time since the franchise rebranded from the Houston Oilers to the Tennessee Titans back in 1999, the team is reportedly getting a new logo. That’s right - the iconic “flaming thumbtack,” a design that's become synonymous with the Titans for nearly three decades, appears to be on its way out.
The news broke after images of a new logo were leaked via Fanatics, the merchandise site, with photos of a redesigned helmet surfacing shortly after. While the team hasn’t officially confirmed the change, the visual evidence - and a few recent hints - suggest a full-on rebrand is coming.
Earlier this week, longtime Titans reporter Jim Wyatt added fuel to the speculation fire. In a team mailbag, Wyatt was asked directly about a possible logo change. His response was coy, declining to comment - which, in NFL-speak, often says more than it doesn’t.
To understand just how significant this is, you have to look at the Titans’ branding history. When the franchise moved from Houston to Tennessee in the late '90s, it initially played two seasons as the Tennessee Oilers before adopting the Titans name and identity in 1999. Since then, the flaming T logo has been the face of the franchise - a symbol that’s seen playoff runs, coaching changes, and everything in between.
The uniforms got a refresh in 2018, modernizing the look but keeping the core identity intact. Now, it looks like the organization is ready to take things a step further.
What’s especially intriguing is the rumored color shift. Reports suggest the Titans could be leaning back into their Oilers roots, possibly trading their current navy-heavy palette for the lighter, more nostalgic Columbia Blue - a color that still resonates deeply with longtime fans of the franchise. That throwback hue made a splash last season when the Titans wore Oilers throwbacks, drawing rave reviews across the league and from fans alike.
While we’re still waiting for the official word from the team, it’s clear the Titans are preparing to turn the page on a visual era that defined them for nearly 30 years. A new logo.
A new helmet. And maybe, a new identity to match the next chapter of Titans football.
Stay tuned - this rebrand could be more than cosmetic. It might just signal a fresh direction for a franchise looking to reassert itself in the AFC.
