TBI Stuns With Investigation Into Hickman County Elections Issues

Investigation Unfolds in Hickman County as Allegations of Election Misconduct Emerge

TBI Launches Investigation into Hickman County Elections

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) has confirmed an active investigation into issues surrounding Hickman County elections. While details remain scarce, the TBI's focus is clear, and it’s causing quite a stir.

Carley Gordon, TBI’s Public Affairs Administrator, stated that the investigation is indeed underway but stopped short of revealing whether former elections administrator Martie Davis or specific commission members are under scrutiny. Election Commission Chairman Roy Crews and Election Administrator Brittany Duke both declined to comment, citing a lack of detailed information. Similarly, County Attorney Dan Mecklenborg claimed no knowledge of the investigation, though sources have confirmed TBI's presence in Centerville recently.

Election Concerns and Administrative Changes

Martie Davis, the former elections administrator, retired over three months ago amidst allegations of election law violations, dereliction of duties, and unprofessional behavior. Her departure prompted the Hickman County Elections Commission to appoint a new administrator last month. While the commission itself isn't currently under investigation, it could face questions as the inquiry progresses.

Pickard Breaks Silence Post-Mayoral Race

The TBI's investigation has also cast a spotlight on the 2025 Centerville mayoral race. During a public meeting, questions arose about whether Davis improperly marked a ballot for Garry Greer at a nursing home. County Commissioner Devin Pickard, who ran in the race, expressed hope that the investigation would clarify the election's integrity.

After months of silence, Pickard shared his concerns, stating that the election process should be fair and transparent. He highlighted moments during the campaign that made him uneasy, and while he refrained from detailing specific incidents, his unease was palpable.

Despite his reservations, Pickard congratulated Greer on his victory, emphasizing that his concerns are not personal but rooted in a desire for electoral transparency. He expressed hope that the investigation would confirm or dispel his doubts, reinforcing the need for accountability within the election commission.

Looking Forward

Pickard remains optimistic about recent changes in the election office and hopes these improvements will restore public trust. He called for accountability, stating that if any illegal activities occurred, the commission must also be scrutinized.

“I have no ill will; all I want is the truth,” Pickard concluded, underscoring his commitment to ensuring a fair electoral process for the community.
