Sycamore Shines on Senior Night as Harpeth Battle Ends in Split

Momentum shifts and standout performances marked a thrilling regular-season finale as Harpeth and Sycamore each claimed a win ahead of the District 11-AA tournament.

Harpeth Boys Mount Comeback While Sycamore Girls Cruise on Senior Night

Friday night in Pleasant View had all the makings of a classic high school basketball doubleheader. With Senior Night and Coming Home celebrations setting the stage, Sycamore hosted Harpeth in the regular-season finale for both programs. And the night delivered - from a dominant performance by the Lady War Eagles to a thrilling, down-to-the-wire comeback by the Harpeth boys.

Lady War Eagles Lock In, Pull Away Early

The girls' game opened with a tight, defensive first quarter, with Sycamore holding a narrow 9-6 edge. But from the second quarter on, it was all Lady War Eagles.

Sycamore turned up the pressure and found their rhythm offensively, outscoring Harpeth 19-9 in the second frame to take a commanding 28-15 lead into halftime. They didn’t let up after the break either, extending the margin to 42-22 by the end of the third. By the final buzzer, Sycamore had secured a convincing 56-33 win, closing out their regular season on a high note.

Senior Raleigh Wright led the way with 14 points in her final home game, showing poise and leadership on both ends of the floor. Sophie Stuart and Campbell Gill each chipped in eight, while Jayden Carney added seven. It was a balanced scoring effort from Sycamore, with contributions up and down the roster - Faithlynn Harley (6), Josie Boyd and Sophie Head (4 each), Libby Reeder (2), and a free throw apiece from Sophie Garzmann and Markayla Bailey.

Harpeth’s Jalyn Murphree was a bright spot for the visitors, pouring in a game-high 17 points and keeping the Lady Indians within reach early. Cayleigh Duke added five, Ella Pomeroy finished with four, Lilly Stinson scored three, and Brailyn Goddard and Cameron Hayes added two each.

With the win, the Lady War Eagles head into the District 11-AA tournament carrying momentum and confidence - and a reminder of what they’re capable of when they’re clicking.

Harpeth Boys Complete Stunning Comeback to Stay Perfect in District

If the girls’ game was about control, the boys’ game was all about resilience.

Sycamore came out firing, building a quick 19-11 lead after the first quarter and pushing it to 38-28 by halftime. Landon Arndt was in the zone early, scoring in bunches and finishing with a game-high 21 points. Hicks Hunter added 14, and Carter Wallace chipped in 13 as the War Eagles looked poised to spoil Harpeth’s perfect district record.

But Harpeth wasn’t done.

Down seven entering the fourth quarter, the Indians dug deep and mounted a furious rally. Senior Henry Cable led the charge with 15 points, providing the spark when his team needed it most. Pete Johnson added 12, Lucas Barton scored 10, and Caiden Johnston contributed nine as Harpeth clawed back, possession by possession.

With the clock winding down, the Indians took the lead in the final seconds - and held on for a 63-60 win that preserved their unbeaten district record and extended their winning streak to 11 games.

The victory locked up the No. 1 seed for Harpeth heading into the District 11-AA tournament, and it’s clear this group has no plans of slowing down.

What’s Next

With the regular season in the books, both programs now shift their focus to postseason play. The girls opened tournament action Tuesday night at Harpeth, while the boys’ semifinal matchups are set for Thursday. Championship and consolation games for both squads will take place Saturday.

If Friday night was any indication, the road to a district title is going to be packed with energy, emotion, and plenty of drama. Buckle up.
