Texas A&M wide receiver Mario Craver found himself in the middle of a social media storm after the Aggies’ 35-6 loss to LSU in Baton Rouge, and it had nothing to do with anything he did on the field.
Craver was already under the microscope after a rough night in which he dealt with multiple injury scares and finished with just three catches for 31 yards. Then came the online backlash. Aggies fans noticed his public activity on Instagram, where he was seen liking posts from Peyton Blomquist, the Florida Gators fan who went viral during Florida’s upset win over Ole Miss.
Blomquist’s rise to internet fame came from ABC’s broadcast, which repeatedly cut to her in the stands as Florida pulled off the win. The attention sent her follower count soaring, and less than 12 hours after Texas A&M’s loss, she posted a game-day photo dump on Instagram. That’s when fans spotted Craver double-tapping her new pictures, setting off criticism almost immediately.
For Texas A&M, the timing only made the situation look worse. The Aggies are now 2-2 after starting the season with bigger expectations, coming off an 11-2 year and a College Football Playoff appearance. They opened with a 50-0 shutout of Missouri State at Kyle Field, then beat Arizona State 48-20 to move to 2-0.
Since then, though, the season has taken a sharp turn. Two straight losses have the program reeling, and Craver’s off-field attention has only added another layer to a frustrating stretch.
