The Seahawks’ preseason meeting with the Titans on Sunday night isn’t just another August tune-up. For a handful of players, it’s a live audition with roster stakes attached.
Seattle and Tennessee already crossed paths in a joint practice Friday in Nashville, but the real pressure arrives when the game kicks off in Preseason Week 2. The staff gets another look, the depth chart gets another shake, and four Seahawks enter the night with plenty to prove.
Bobby Hart is one of them, and the situation is already getting uncomfortable. Signed this offseason to help at offensive tackle, Hart has not separated himself in camp, and his Week 1 showing against the Cowboys only added to the concern.
He allowed a sack to James Houston and had trouble slowing rookie Malachi Lawrence. The one thing working in his favor is that nobody else has clearly taken hold of the job, but Hart still comes into this matchup carrying a lot of pressure.
The same general tension exists at cornerback, where the Seahawks’ addition of Trevon Diggs changed the math for both Nehemiah Pritchett and Noah Igbinoghene. Pritchett appears to be the one in the most immediate danger.
Jeremy Brener of Seahawks On SI noted that Igbinoghene’s work in the slot gives him a little more protection from Diggs’ arrival, since Diggs is primarily an outside corner. Pritchett, meanwhile, is already battling for a place on the roster with rookie third-round pick Julian Neal ahead of him, and the new addition makes the path to the 53-man roster even narrower.
The backfield battle has its own twist. Jadarian Price was expected to be the RB1 this season while Zach Charbonnet recovers from ACL surgery, but George Holani has forced his way into the conversation after standing out all camp.
Still, his momentum took a small hit against the Cowboys, when he averaged just 3.5 yards per attempt. The offensive line didn’t help, but if Holani wants to keep Price from seizing control, he needs a stronger performance against Tennessee.
Then there’s Emanuel Wilson, who signed with Seattle in the offseason and has yet to make his debut. A hamstring injury has kept him out so far, and Sunday could finally be his chance if he’s recovered enough to play.
If he gets on the field, he’ll need to show he belongs in the rotation. If he doesn’t, the opportunity to carve out a meaningful early-season role could start slipping away.
