Mike McDaniel has officially pulled his name from the Cleveland Browns’ head coaching search, according to Tom Pelissero. McDaniel had been scheduled for an in-person interview with the Browns, but that meeting is now off the table. While he’s no longer in the mix for Cleveland, McDaniel remains very much in play for head coaching opportunities with both the Baltimore Ravens and Las Vegas Raiders.
That’s not all on McDaniel’s plate, though. Today, he’s interviewing for the offensive coordinator job with the Los Angeles Chargers, and per Pelissero, he’s fielding multiple OC offers. One of those could potentially be from the Tennessee Titans, a team that’s still working to reshape its offensive identity.
There’s a compelling case to be made for why Tennessee might be an attractive landing spot for McDaniel. His relationship with head coach Robert Saleh is strong, and that kind of trust could translate into real autonomy on the offensive side of the ball. In a scenario where McDaniel joins the Titans, it’s easy to envision him essentially running the offense with full control-something that might not be on the table with more hands-on head coaches like Jim Harbaugh, who’s in the mix for the Chargers gig.
The Titans might not have the most talent-rich roster at the moment, but the opportunity for McDaniel to put his stamp on an offense without interference could be a major draw. He’s known for his creativity and ability to scheme to his players’ strengths, and Tennessee is looking for exactly that kind of spark.
As the coaching carousel continues to spin, McDaniel’s name remains one to watch-whether it’s as a head coach or a high-powered OC with the keys to an offense.
