JC Latham is starting to look like the player Tennessee thought it was drafting.
The Titans came up just short against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2 and dropped to 0-2, but there was still plenty to like about how they played. For the first time in a while, Tennessee was in a real football game, and the offensive line stood out against a tough defensive front.
That group did more than hold its own. The Titans averaged 4.2 yards per carry, a clear sign the run game is moving in the right direction, and the line arguably won the battle in the trenches on offense. Right in the middle of that surge was Latham, who has been steady on the right side through the first two weeks.
The former first-round pick’s draft appeal in 2024 was built mostly on power, and that strength is showing up now. Against the Eagles, he handled Nolan Smith in pass protection and helped move bodies in the run game. For a player who has not always shown much consistency over the last two seasons, this has been a strong start to 2026.
Latham was just as effective in Week 1 against the Jets. He spent most of that game matched up with the 2026 second overall pick, David Bailey, a rusher known for his speed and pass-rush juice. Latham controlled that matchup and kept the right side secure, even with the Jets sending constant blitzes at Tennessee’s offensive line.
His one real mistake came at the worst possible moment in Week 2. A slight misstep against Jalen Carter led to a drive-killing sack and knocked the Titans out of touchdown range on the final drive. One play does not decide a game, but it was a costly one, and cutting out those kinds of errors is the next hurdle for Latham.
Week 3 gives him another chance to back up the early progress. Tennessee faces the New York Giants, and if Latham can again hold up against Abdul Carter and Kayvon Thibodeaux, his case for a long-term contract in Tennessee this offseason only gets stronger.
