Hickman County Extends Perfect Run With Dominant Win Over Rival Team

Hickman Countys basketball teams continued their dominant district run with commanding wins over Lewis County, signaling strong momentum heading into tougher matchups ahead.

Hickman County Sweeps Lewis County, Both Squads Stay Perfect in District Play

Hickman County basketball is making some serious noise in district play, and Friday night’s doubleheader sweep of Lewis County was just the latest statement. Both the Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs took care of business in dominant fashion, improving to 2-0 in the district and showing exactly why they’re teams to watch as the season heats up.

Lady Bulldogs Dominate Wire-to-Wire

The Lady Bulldogs wasted no time setting the tone. They jumped out to a 16-7 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, cruising to a 70-31 win over Lewis County. This was a performance built on both top-end talent and depth - a dangerous combination come tournament time.

Karlie Everette poured in 21 points while Ava Floyd added 20 of her own, forming a one-two punch that Lewis County simply couldn’t handle. But this wasn’t just a two-player show. Eight different players found the scoring column for Hickman County, a testament to the team’s balance and unselfish play.

Head coach Gavin Gordon was pleased with the result - and for good reason. Not only are the Lady Bulldogs 2-0 in the district, but they’ve scored over 70 points in both of those contests.

“It’s good to be 2-0 in the district and score 70+ in each of the first two district games,” Gordon said. “We look forward to a big week against Cheatham County on Tuesday and cross-town rival East Hickman on Friday.”

That Tuesday matchup against Cheatham County Central won’t count in the district standings, but it’s a measuring stick game nonetheless. The Lady Cubs come in at 14-5, while Hickman County sits at 15-5. It’s the kind of midseason test that could sharpen the Bulldogs for the battles ahead.

Lady Bulldogs Box Score:

  • Karlie Everette - 21
  • Ava Floyd - 20
  • Zoie Chilton - 8
  • Bailey Cramer - 5
  • Hailee Gordon - 5
  • Aubrey Anderson - 4
  • Rachel Puckett - 4
  • Tenley Davis - 3

Bulldogs Light It Up from Deep, Roll Past Lewis County

The boys followed suit with a performance that was equal parts explosive and efficient. Hickman County jumped all over Lewis County early, dropping 28 points in the first quarter alone - a burst fueled by three early three-pointers from Tim Puckett, who ended the night with a team-high 17 points and five threes overall.

By the end of the first quarter, the Bulldogs had already built a 12-point cushion, and from there, it was all about maintaining control and spreading the wealth. That’s exactly what they did.

“We played a really solid game and everyone who took the floor for the Bulldogs played well,” head coach Chris Dawson said. “We were really balanced offensively, with five players registering double-figure points.”

That balance was on full display: Dylan Qualls chipped in 14, Bradyn Brown added 13, Will McDonald had 12, and Tyler McKennon rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10. When five players are scoring at that clip, it’s a nightmare for opposing defenses.

And it wasn’t just the offense clicking. The Bulldogs brought the heat on the defensive end too, racking up 12 steals and three blocked shots - the kind of pressure that leads to easy buckets and breaks games open.

“It was a really good night, and we took a big step towards reaching our potential,” Dawson added.

Now sitting at 12-8 overall and 2-0 in district play, the Bulldogs are hitting their stride at just the right time.

Bulldogs Box Score:

  • Tim Puckett - 17
  • Dylan Qualls - 14
  • Bradyn Brown - 13
  • Will McDonald - 12
  • Tyler McKennon - 10
  • Kylan Seale - 4
  • Brody Worley - 3

Friday night was more than just a pair of wins - it was a statement. Both Hickman County squads are undefeated in district play, and they’re doing it with a mix of star power, depth, and defensive grit. With key matchups looming, the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs are proving they’re not just contenders - they’re teams built to make noise when it matters most.
