As the NFL regular season winds down, the head coaching carousel is already spinning-and right now, only two teams are officially on the ride: the New York Giants and the Tennessee Titans. Both franchises made midseason moves, parting ways with their head coaches after disappointing starts. The Titans moved on from Brian Callahan after a Week 6 loss to the Raiders, while the Giants dismissed Brian Daboll following a Week 10 defeat to the Bears.
Now, with both teams in the market for a new leader, the rumor mill is heating up-and one name is generating serious buzz: Marcus Freeman.
Freeman, currently the head coach at Notre Dame, is reportedly on the radar for both vacancies. According to reports, the Giants and Titans have already begun doing their homework on the 39-year-old, and they’re not alone. Several teams that could be facing coaching changes of their own are also said to be interested in Freeman if he decides to make the leap to the NFL.
Freeman’s stock is undeniably rising. In just a few seasons, he’s turned Notre Dame into one of the most consistent programs in college football.
Under his leadership, the Fighting Irish have stacked four straight winning seasons and made it all the way to the National Championship Game in 2024. That kind of résumé doesn’t go unnoticed at the pro level-especially when teams are searching for a culture-changer and a leader who can connect with today’s players.
While there’s no official word on Freeman’s intentions, some coaches close to him reportedly believe he’ll stay in the college ranks-for now. But if he’s open to a move, the NFL will be waiting.
The Giants, in particular, appear to be keeping a close eye on him. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported just days ago that Freeman is expected to be a top candidate in New York’s search.
The Titans, meanwhile, are also doing their due diligence. Tennessee has shown a willingness to think outside the box in recent years, and a young, energetic coach like Freeman-who’s already proven he can handle pressure, recruit top talent, and build a winning culture-could be exactly what they’re looking for.
Bottom line: if Marcus Freeman wants to make the jump to Sundays, he won’t be short on suitors.
