Vince Young knows the weight that comes with being the quarterback in Tennessee, and he likes what he sees in Cam Ward.
The former Titans centerpiece, who was selected No. 3 overall in the 2006 NFL Draft, spoke with Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 in Houston and offered a strong endorsement of Ward heading into 2026. Young said the second-year quarterback has the kind of confidence that can carry him, especially now that the Titans have started to build more support around him.
"Cam is one of those guys who just has a tremendous confidence in himself," Young told Wilson. "I'm just happy that they got some guys around him that can help him get some offensive alignment in there as well, because I really feel like he had the same situation that Caleb Williams had in Chicago when he was first drafted."
Young’s comparison to Williams was pointed. He said Ward went through a similar kind of rookie-year setup, one that left the quarterback dealing with a rough environment early on.
"If you give him some time in the pocket, Cam can throw. He's going to deliver," Young continued.
"I really feel like they did a good job of bringing in guys that can help. I'm hearing that they are doing some great things to work and get better as a team.
I know it was a tough year for them last year, but we all go through that as rookies."
Tennessee has clearly tried to change the picture around Ward. The Titans used the No. 4 overall pick in this year’s draft on wide receiver Carnell Tate, then added Wan'Dale Robinson in free agency to give Ward another option in the slot. The offense also now belongs to Brian Daboll, the former New York Giants head coach who has taken over play-calling duties in Tennessee.
Ward has already called Daboll a "perfect fit" for the offense, and the early feedback from the building has been positive.
Young’s perspective carries real weight here. His own Tennessee story started with huge expectations after that No. 3 selection, and he knows exactly what it means to be asked to lead the franchise. That’s why his praise for Ward lands the way it does: as a quarterback who’s been there, watching another young passer get a better hand in Year 2.
The Titans are counting on that setup to matter. Young clearly believes it can.
