Robert Saleh came away from the Titans’ padded practice with a clear takeaway: Elic Ayomanor is making noise early in training camp.
Tennessee’s head coach spoke to reporters after practice and said the first few days in pads usually come with plenty of uneven work as players adjust to the added physicality. That didn’t stop Ayomanor from standing out again, though, as the wide receiver turned in another strong day on the field.
Saleh wasn’t shocked by what he’s seeing from the second-year receiver. When asked about Ayomanor, he pointed to the work the player put in during the offseason and the challenge that still sits in front of him.
“First day of pads. Consistency is the greatest measure of performance, so everyone can do it once; the great ones can do it multiple times over time.” Saleh said, “He worked relentlessly this offseason to put himself in the position to have success for his second season both on and off the field mentally.”
Ayomanor has been Tennessee’s most steady wideout through the early stretch of camp, and he’s making a real case for a spot in the starting group. Still, Saleh’s message was plain: the next step is doing it over and over again.
That’s the same hurdle Ayomanor faced as a rookie. He showed real flashes and emerged as one of the Titans’ better receiving options, but there were also stretches where the production dipped and drops became an issue. If he can keep stacking strong practices and turn himself into a dependable outside target, it would go a long way toward lifting the Titans’ offense.
