The Miami Dolphins made a major move Monday, parting ways with wide receiver Tyreek Hill in a surprising round of roster cuts.
Hill, one of the league’s most electrifying playmakers over the past decade, is now a free agent after appearing in just a handful of games last season due to a torn ACL. While injuries have slowed him recently, Hill’s name still carries serious weight across the NFL-especially for teams looking to add a game-breaking element to their offense.
Three teams immediately jump off the page as potential suitors: the San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos, and Tennessee Titans. Each has a different situation, but all could benefit from what Hill brings to the table-even if he’s not quite the same blur he was in his prime.
Let’s start with San Francisco. The 49ers are staring down some tough decisions at wide receiver this offseason.
Brandon Aiyuk is expected to move on, and Jauan Jennings is also headed for free agency. That leaves a significant void at the position, especially for a team that just made a Super Bowl run with one of the most balanced and explosive offenses in football.
Hill might not have the same top-end speed he did in his younger days, but in Kyle Shanahan’s system, he wouldn’t need to run a 4.2 to be effective. Shanahan thrives on scheming players into space, and few in the league understand how to exploit defensive leverage like Hill. Pairing him with quarterback Brock Purdy would give San Francisco another vertical threat who can also turn short throws into chunk gains-something Shanahan’s offense is built to maximize.
Then there’s Denver. The Broncos are in a different phase of their build, with rookie quarterback Bo Nix expected to be the guy under center moving forward.
For a young QB, having a veteran presence like Hill-someone who knows how to get open, stretch the field, and command attention-could be invaluable. Denver’s offense needs more juice, and while Hill might not be the long-term answer, he could be the spark that helps accelerate Nix’s development.
Tennessee, meanwhile, is flush with cap space-more than $100 million to work with. That’s a luxury not many teams have, and it gives them flexibility to take some calculated swings in free agency.
Rookie quarterback Cam Ward is expected to be the centerpiece of their rebuild, and surrounding him with dynamic weapons will be key. Hill could be that guy, offering a security blanket and a vertical outlet for a young passer still adjusting to the speed of the NFL.
That said, money might not be the deciding factor here. Hill is 31 and coming off a major injury, so teams likely won’t be lining up with massive offers.
And for Hill, fit and opportunity may matter more than the size of the paycheck. If he’s chasing a ring, San Francisco makes the most sense.
If he wants to be a featured weapon and help shape a young offense, Denver and Tennessee could offer that path.
No matter where he lands, Hill's next move will be one of the most intriguing storylines of the offseason. He may not be the same player who once terrorized defenses on a weekly basis, but even a slightly diminished Tyreek Hill is still a threat defenses have to account for. And for teams looking to elevate their offense-whether they’re contending or rebuilding-he’s a name worth watching.
