Washington's Draft Day Surprise: Jeremiyah Love in the Spotlight
The NFL draft board just got a shake-up, and it's all eyes on the Washington Commanders. With a month to go before Roger Goodell steps up to announce the picks, ESPN's Adam Schefter has thrown a curveball into the mix.
Forget about the Tennessee Titans at No. 4 or the New York Giants at No. 5.
Schefter predicts that Notre Dame's standout, Jeremiyah Love, will land with the Commanders at the seventh overall pick.
The Skattebo Factor in New York
The NFC East is buzzing with anticipation. Many thought the Giants would be eager to grab a dynamic playmaker like Love.
However, it seems they're ready to pass, thanks to the emergence of Cam Skattebo. The young running back showed immense potential during his rookie season before a dislocated ankle cut it short.
In just eight games, Skattebo amassed 410 rushing yards, 207 receiving yards, and seven touchdowns, proving he's a force to be reckoned with.
The Giants' confidence in Skattebo's future opens the door wide for Washington to make a bold move.
Adam Schefter shared his insights, saying, "I don’t see him going to Tennessee or the Giants at number five. Although that would be an interesting spot, and I think he’d have a lot of support there.
To me, a place that makes sense, today, a month out, would be the Washington Commanders. They’ve added to their running back room, and I could see Washington being interested in a player like Jeremiyah Love.
Seven would be the spot."
Playoff Implications and What's Next
Washington has been proactive in free agency, bringing in Rachaad White. But when a generational talent like Love is available, you don't pass up the opportunity.
Love's college career at Notre Dame was nothing short of legendary, with 2,882 rushing yards and 36 touchdowns. His ability to catch passes out of the backfield added another dimension to his game, with 594 receiving yards and six touchdowns, leading his team to the National Championship game.
Pairing Love's explosive speed with Jayden Daniels at quarterback could turn the Commanders into an offensive powerhouse. Defensive coordinators across the league will have their work cut out for them trying to counter this dual-threat backfield. The 2026 draft may still be weeks away, but the strategic maneuvering has already begun.
