Nearly 20 wrestlers from Cheatham County are headed to Franklin with state titles in their sights.
After a strong showing at the Section 4 tournament on Feb. 14 at Millington High School, 15 athletes from Cheatham County Central, Harpeth, and Sycamore punched their tickets to the TSSAA boys wrestling state championships. The top four finishers in each weight class earned a spot at state, and three local wrestlers didn’t just qualify-they dominated.
Cheatham County Central’s Walker Hobbs took home the 144-pound title, showcasing the kind of grit and mat awareness that makes him a serious contender next week. His teammate, Roger Gonzalez, muscled his way to the 285-pound championship, proving once again that he’s a force in the heavyweight division. And at 113 pounds, Sycamore’s Brandan Monroe stood tall-figuratively and literally-on the top step of the podium.
These wins weren’t just individual triumphs-they’re a reflection of the depth and talent coming out of Cheatham County this season. With the state tournament set for Feb. 20-21 at the Williamson County Ag Expo Park, all eyes will be on this group to see how far they can go on the big stage.
Here’s a breakdown of who’s representing each school:
Cheatham County Central is sending a deep squad with nine qualifiers across multiple weight classes:
- 113 pounds - Frankie Gutierrez
- 120 pounds - Joseph McCutcheon
- 126 pounds - Magnus Johnson
- 132 pounds - Aiden Moore
- 144 pounds - Walker Hobbs
- 150 pounds - Jesse Carney
- 157 pounds - Nicolas Hargrove
- 215 pounds - Liam Wilson
- 285 pounds - Roger Gonzalez
That’s a balanced mix of lightweights, middleweights, and heavyweights-all with a shot to make noise in Franklin.
Harpeth will be represented by three wrestlers:
- 120 pounds - William Holley
- 126 pounds - Killian Gholson
- 150 pounds - Tanner Aldridge
Each of these competitors earned their spot by grinding through a tough sectional bracket, and they’ll be looking to carry that momentum into the state tournament.
Sycamore rounds out the county’s contingent with three qualifiers of its own:
- 113 pounds - Brandan Monroe
- 120 pounds - Zaiden Parker
- 175 pounds - Colton Long
Monroe’s sectional title gives Sycamore a legitimate title hopeful, while Parker and Long bring experience and toughness to a team that’s quietly built a strong wrestling culture.
The action gets underway at 9 a.m. Friday, and if the sectional results are any indication, Cheatham County’s wrestlers are arriving with more than just hopes-they're bringing confidence, skill, and a real shot at hardware.
