The scrutiny around Cam Ward in Tennessee has already taken a sharp turn, and not just because the Titans keep losing.
Ward, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, is in his second season and the results have been rough. Tennessee is 0-5, and in Sunday’s 26-3 loss to the Houston Texans, Ward finished with 170 passing yards and one interception.
That kind of production invites criticism. It also invited a postgame question that landed hard: “Have you gotten used to losing?”
Ward’s answer was just as direct. “No, I’m not a loser.
The record may say that we are right now. But at the end of the day, you got to go through some stuff to try to get wins.”
That wasn’t the first time he’s been pressed in a blunt way. Earlier this year, another reporter asked him, “Doesn’t a very good quarterback have better results than you have?”
Those are fair questions in a vacuum. Ward has not played well enough, and the Titans’ start has been ugly. But the temperature around some of these exchanges has clearly caught people’s attention, with fans and media voices pointing out that the line between tough and pointed can be pretty thin.
Cory Yates called out the way Ward is being handled after Sunday’s game. “There’s a difference between tough and mean-spirited questions. Cam Ward gets more mean-spirited questions from the local media than any QB in the league it’s pretty obvious it’s intentional and that he has zero PR air cover,” he shared on X.
Bomani Jones said on “The Right Time” last Monday that he was stunned by how hard the Titans media comes at the young quarterback. “You only have a media go that hard at the quarterback, let alone the young quarterback, on a team that nobody expects to be good, with the consent of either coaching or management,” he said. “I don’t know what they are telling people about him, but I don’t know how that turns around.”
Jones also suggested there’s something bigger going on around the organization. “Somebody’s telling these guys this is OK.
And it’s interesting, because they have an obvious ownership problem with that team,” he said. “This team doesn’t look good, the organization doesn’t seem to be strong, people around them have been complaining about Amy Struck for as long as I can think of, since she got there.
The quarterback may be the reflection of an issue, but their issues are grand, and they are giant, and it all seems that right now, the face of it is their 20-something-year-old quarterback.”
Ward is going to have to play better if Tennessee is going to believe he’s the long-term answer. But the questions around him are getting nearly as much attention as the play itself.

Texans Win Came With A Strange Titans Moment Fans Couldn't Ignore
During Tennessees loss to the Houston Texans, the usual frustration of another defeat was joined by a much smaller, stranger scene that quickly caught the eye of fans watching online. Cornerback CorDale Flotts helmet became a talking point on social media as the Titans tried to keep up in a game that only added to an already rough start.
Flott also dealt with a chest injury that forced him off the field, and teammate Micah Robinson stepped in to take his place. It was the kind of offbeat moment that can get lost inside a lopsided loss, but for Tennessee it fit the larger picture all too well, with the Titans now sitting at five straight losses to open the season. Cam Wards Response To Another Titans Loss Says A Lot
The Titans 26-3 loss to the Texans left them at 0-5, and the frustration around another flat offensive showing was impossible to miss afterward. Quarterback C.J. Ward handled the postgame questions with a sharper edge, saying he is not a loser and steering the conversation toward the larger task of building a winning foundation rather than dwelling on the skid.
Wards numbers were a rare bright spot in a rough day, as he completed 23 of 26 passes for 170 yards with one interception. Still, Tennessees offense never found enough rhythm to change the shape of the game, and the bigger question now is how much of this start is growing pain and how much is becoming a defining stretch for a team still searching for its footing. Brian Daboll Is Already Testing Titans Fans Patience
Brian Daboll arrived as the Titans offensive coordinator with the hope that a new voice could help steady an attack that needed immediate direction, but the first month of the season has done little to calm anyone around the building. Tennessee is 0-5, and the offense has been stuck searching for rhythm, yardage and points as each week brings more frustration than progress.
Cam Wards early work under Daboll has only added to the unease. Compared with his rookie season, his yards per attempt and passer rating have gone backward, and the downfield production has been scarce, with few completions over 20 yards. Even a low-output showing against the Houston Texans fit the same pattern, leaving Titans fans waiting for signs that this pairing can turn into something more functional. [Read more 🡒]
