Cam Ward’s rookie season gave the Tennessee Titans enough to dream bigger about what comes next.
The No. 1 pick in 2025 didn’t exactly walk into a perfect setup, but he still managed to throw for more than 3,000 yards with 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions. On paper, those are solid numbers. In context, they look even better when you remember who he was throwing to for much of the year: rookies Chimere Dike and Elic Ayomanor, plus veterans Tyler Lockett and Van Jefferson.
That picture should look a lot different in 2026.
The Titans now have a much more appealing group around Ward, with top pick Carnell Tate, free-agent pickup Wan'Dale Robinson, and veteran Calvin Ridley lining up as his primary targets. Tate and Robinson turned heads this summer, and Ridley looked like his old self. Tennessee also has tight end Gunnar Helm entering his second season, and Helm appears capable of becoming a very good player at the position.
Add in a more experienced and proven coaching staff, and the ingredients are there for Ward to make a real jump.
That optimism isn’t limited to Tennessee, either. Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay recently laid out expectations for young quarterbacks and was high on Ward’s outlook.
"The Tennessee Titans may not have been the latest team to go from worst-to-first with a prized rookie quarterback leading the way, but they still saw enough from Cam Ward last year to feel confident in the No. 1 overall pick's ability to lead this franchise for the long haul," said Kay.
Kay also pointed to the upgrades around Ward, including the new receivers and veteran offensive line additions Austin Schlottman and Cordell Volson.
"These new wideouts, along with veteran offensive line additions Austin Schlottman and Cordell Volson, will assist Ward in making a huge leap during his pivotal sophomore season," said Kay. "If the signal-caller takes to Daboll's system and his teammates live up to the hype, there should be little doubt Ward will cement himself as a franchise QB in 2026."
Kay’s final call was a top-12 season for Ward, which would put him in borderline Pro Bowl territory. And given how Ward performed as a rookie, that kind of leap doesn’t feel out of reach.

The Titans linebacker room looks mostly settled at the top, with Cedric Gray, Cody Barton and rookie Anthony Hill Jr. in the mix for playing time. The real intrigue is lower on the depth chart, where the fourth and possibly fifth roster spots are still open and the competition is starting to sharpen between James Williams, Mohamoud Diabate and Dorian Mausi.
Mausi has already done enough in OTAs and minicamp to get attention as an underdog in the race, and the special teams angle could end up mattering just as much as what happens at linebacker. Titans Still Have One Roster Question Hanging Over Training Camp
With training camp set to open soon, the Titans roster looks mostly settled, but there is still room for Mike Borgonzi to keep scanning the veteran market. Rookies report July 23, veterans follow July 28, and the front office has a few spots where experience could still matter if the right fit shakes loose.
The most obvious areas are in the secondary and along the offensive line, where Tennessee could use another layer of competition and insurance. Kenny Moore would bring nickel experience, Obi Melifonwu has already been through a workout with the team, and a familiar tackle option could give the Titans a proven backup presence if they decide the depth chart still needs one more adjustment before camp gets rolling.
