The Tennessee Titans may be stuck at 0-4, but Anthony Hill Jr. has been one of the few reasons there’s anything worth watching on that defense.
Tennessee’s second-round pick in April has stepped right into a major role for head coach Robert Saleh’s unit and produced right away. Through four games, the Texas linebacker has 42 tackles, 13 defensive stops, two pass deflections, and a 73.5 Pro Football Focus tackling grade. He’s also been on the field for every defensive snap the Titans have played in 2026.
That kind of workload usually comes with the normal rookie bumps, and Hill has had them, especially in pass coverage. Even so, the 21-year-old has brought a burst of energy and range to a linebacker room that needed it.
Still, the national recognition hasn’t quite matched the production.
NFL.com’s Gennaro Filice ranked the top rookie defenders through four games and placed Hill at No. 7, with Sonny Styles of the Washington Commanders taking the top spot.
“As the Mike linebacker and green-dot wearer in Robert Saleh’s defense, Hill is automatically subject to reckless Fred Warner comparisons. I won’t be making any of those here, but the rookie does deserve shine for his sideline-to-sideline range.
Over the first three weeks of the season, Hill piled up an NFL-high 34 tackles, earning him Defensive Rookie of the Month honors for September. Against the pass, he’s flashed ability as a blitzer but lacks consistency in coverage," Filice wrote of Hill.
The group ahead of him also included Arvell Reese of the New York Giants, Dillon Thieneman of the Chicago Bears, Mansoor Delane of the Kansas City Chiefs, Jacob Rodriguez of the Miami Dolphins, and Caleb Downs of the Dallas Cowboys.
Hill has already looked like a key piece for Saleh’s roster, but being on a winless team tends to bury good work in the noise. If the Titans were winning, the 6-foot-2 linebacker would probably be getting a louder national push for what he’s done so far.
For now, Tennessee will try to get its first victory of the season against the Houston Texans at Nissan Stadium, and Hill’s job stays the same: own the middle of the field, keep growing in coverage, and keep bringing the same edge against the run.

Titans Trade Talk Is Getting Real After This Brutal Start
A winless start has pushed the Titans into a familiar early-season conversation: whether to keep leaning on veterans or start thinking about the next move. Around the league, Tennessee is being viewed as a team that could listen on running back Tony Pollard and wide receiver Calvin Ridley, two players whose names naturally come up when clubs begin sorting out the trade market in October. Pollards contract status only adds to the intrigue, while Ridley remains a potential fit for teams looking to add receiving help.
At the same time, not every veteran is automatically in play. Edge rusher Jermaine Johnson II is expected to stay put because of how he has played and how important he has become to the defense. For a Titans team trying to steady itself after such a rough opening stretch, the bigger question is whether this becomes a reset around the edges or the start of a broader selloff. [Read more 🡒]
Titans Backs Could Be Pulled Into A Packers Problem Fast
Matt LaFleurs frustration with his running backs after a game full of fumbles has only added to the sense that Green Bays backfield is suddenly a problem worth watching. The Packers are already last in the NFL in rushing attempts and yards, and with Josh Jacobs status still unsettled because of his legal issues and placement on the Commissioners Exempt List, the pressure to find answers has only grown.
For Tennessee, that kind of uncertainty can quickly turn into phone calls. Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears are both the sort of backs who could draw interest if Green Bay decides it needs help fast, which is why the Titans may find their backfield suddenly pulled into a bigger conversation than expected. It is the kind of situation that can move from frustration to urgency in a hurry, and the Packers may not have much time to let it sort itself out. [Read more 🡒]
Titans Rookies Are Sending An Early Rebuild Message
The Titans rookie class is already drawing league-wide attention, with four first-year players landing on The Athletics All-Rookie team. Carnell Tate led the way as a first-team selection, while linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. and Fernando Carmona earned second-team spots, a strong early sign that Tennessees rebuild may already have more depth than expected.
Keldric Faulk also received honorable mention, adding to the sense that this group is giving the Titans a legitimate young core to build around. Carmonas placement came despite an early injury, and the bigger takeaway for Tennessee is that the development of these rookies could quickly become one of the most important storylines in the franchises next phase.
