TCU’s Big 12 opener unraveled in Orlando, and the problem wasn’t hard to spot.
The Horned Frogs managed only one touchdown in a 21-13 loss to UCF at Acisure Bounce House on Saturday, a game defined by poor execution, mistakes and penalties. TCU fell to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play, while UCF moved to 3-1 and 1-0.
The Frogs’ offense never found a rhythm. They finished with 343 total yards, but that number hid how little real damage they did. Quarterback Jaden Craig, who had shown improvement against lower level teams, was off all afternoon, going 25-for-39 for 310 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions.
The ground game was even more troubling. TCU rushed for just 33 yards as a team, a meager 1.2 yards per carry, and never threatened to establish anything consistent on the ground. That was especially glaring against a UCF defense that entered the game with the Big 12’s worst run defense, giving up nearly 138 yards per game.
Up front, TCU’s offensive line had its worst outing of the season. It not only failed to open lanes in the run game, but also gave up four sacks and six quarterback hurries.
Jeremy Payne Jordan Dwyer provided the top receiving production for the Frogs, catching five passes for 100 yards in his first action of the season.
But the day belonged to the breakdowns. For TCU, the lack of offensive execution and the pile of mistakes were too much to overcome.

TCUs first Big 12 outing of the season ended in a 21-13 loss to UCF, and the box score left at least one obvious question hanging over the Horned Frogs offense. The Frogs actually outgained UCF in total yards, but they never turned that advantage into enough points, in part because the running game never got going and the offense kept putting itself behind the sticks with turnovers and penalties.
Jordan Dwyer, Jeremy Scott and Jeremy Payne each helped move the ball at different points, but inconsistent protection and four turnovers repeatedly interrupted any rhythm. There were encouraging signs on the other side of the ball, too, as TCU held UCF down on the ground and finished with two sacks, yet the defenses work was not enough to cover for an offense that kept missing chances.
