Boyd steps into this role after a successful stint at Wyoming, where he served as the co-special teams coordinator and cornerbacks coach for six years. This move sees Julius Brown transitioning to the role of assistant cornerbacks coach.
Boyd's tenure at Wyoming was marked by impressive defensive stats that caught national attention. Wyoming led the nation in third-down defense, holding opponents to a mere 26 percent conversion rate.
They capped their season by limiting offensive powerhouses Boise State and Washington State to a combined 31 points, showcasing their defensive prowess. The Cowboys also led the Mountain West Conference in kickoff return yards, ranking 14th nationally.
In 2023, Wyoming celebrated a standout season, securing nine wins for the first time since their 10-2 run in 1996. Their defense was a force, ranking 26th in the nation for turnovers gained and third in the Mountain West.
They were also seventh nationally with 11 fumble recoveries. The defense excelled in limiting opponents' passing efficiency, ranking 24th in fewest yards allowed per pass attempt.
