TCU QB Ken Seals Earns National Honor After First Career Start

In his first start for TCU, quarterback Ken Seals delivered a standout bowl performance that earned him national recognition-and a place among college footballs elite.

In a season full of twists, TCU quarterback Ken Seals delivered a finale worth remembering-and now he's got the recognition to match it. Seals has been named to the Davey O’Brien Postseason Great 8, a nod to the top quarterback performances from this year’s bowl season and College Football Playoff action.

This honor caps off a remarkable moment for Seals, who made his first career start for the Horned Frogs in the Valero Alamo Bowl. And what a debut it was.

Under the bright lights against a ranked USC squad, Seals showed poise and precision, completing 29 of 40 passes for 258 yards and a touchdown. He also added a rushing score, helping TCU edge out a dramatic 30-27 overtime win over the then-No.

16 Trojans.

That performance didn’t just help seal the win-it earned Seals the Alamo Bowl Offensive MVP honors. Not bad for a guy making his first start in purple and white.

Seals’ journey to this moment has been anything but linear. A native of Azle, Texas, he began his college career at Vanderbilt, where he started 22 games before transferring to TCU ahead of the 2024 season.

His time in Fort Worth has been more about patience and preparation than headlines-until now. Over the course of the 2025 season, Seals saw action in four games, completing 33 of 46 passes for 282 yards, with one touchdown and one interception.

But when his number was called in the bowl game, Seals didn’t just manage the moment-he owned it.

He now joins an elite group of quarterbacks recognized by the Davey O’Brien Foundation, which has been honoring the nation’s top signal-callers since 1981. The award is named after TCU legend Davey O’Brien, who remains one of the most decorated quarterbacks in college football history.

Alongside Seals on the Postseason Great 8 list are Carson Beck (Miami), Trinidad Chambliss (Ole Miss), Devon Dampier (Utah), Arch Manning (Texas), Fernando Mendoza (Indiana), Dante Moore (Oregon), and Conner Weigman (Houston)-a group that represents some of the most exciting quarterback play from this bowl season.

For Seals, this recognition is more than a personal accolade-it’s a testament to perseverance, preparation, and seizing the moment when it matters most. Whether this was a one-off showcase or the start of something bigger at TCU remains to be seen. But one thing’s clear: when the lights were brightest, Ken Seals delivered.
