TCU just took a major step toward shaping its quarterback room of the future, landing a commitment from 2027 prospect Brice McCurdy out of Robinson High School in Waco, Texas.
McCurdy, a three-star dual-threat quarterback, had his pick of programs but ultimately chose the Horned Frogs over a final group that included Baylor, Duke, Cincinnati, UCF, and Arizona. It’s a big win for TCU, especially considering the in-state competition and McCurdy’s rising stock.
Nationally, McCurdy is ranked as the No. 40 quarterback in the 2027 class, and he checks in as the No. 5 signal-caller in the state of Texas. That’s no small feat in a state known for producing elite QB talent year in and year out.
On the field, McCurdy brings a dynamic skill set that fits the modern college game. As a junior in 2025, he passed for over 2,200 yards and added nearly 700 yards on the ground-numbers that speak to his ability to extend plays and keep defenses guessing. He’s not just a runner who can throw, or a passer who can scramble-he’s a true dual-threat with the tools to develop into a multi-dimensional weapon at the next level.
Recruiting momentum started building in earnest two weeks ago when McCurdy visited Fort Worth for TCU’s Top Target Day. That visit clearly made an impression, but it was the personal touch from the coaching staff that helped seal the deal. Head coach Sonny Dykes, offensive line coach Gordon Sammis, and quarterbacks coach Brad Robbins all made the trip to see McCurdy in person on January 28-a move that didn’t go unnoticed.
“Them coming down with all three coaches really meant a lot to me,” McCurdy said at the time. “I would say they’re way up there.”
Now, they’re at the top.
For TCU, this commitment is about more than just adding a talented arm-it’s about investing in a quarterback who fits their system, culture, and long-term vision. McCurdy’s versatility and football IQ give the Frogs a strong foundation to build on as they look ahead to the next era of TCU football.
