TCU Fans Have A New Reason To Rally Around Thien An Nguyen

TCU's community rallies behind alum Thien An Nguyen with a special on-campus viewing event as she competes for the $1 million prize on "Survivor."

TCU turned Campus Commons into a “Survivor” gathering spot Wednesday night for Fort Worth native Thien An Nguyen, who is in the middle of her run on the CBS series.

About 30 family members and friends showed up for trivia at 6 p.m. before settling in for the 90-minute episode at 7 p.m. It was the latest watch party for Nguyen and her first one at TCU. She has also held events at Little Woodrow's and Coco Shrimp.

Nguyen, a 2023 TCU graduate, is now in her third year at the Burnett School of Medicine. Through four episodes, she remains alive in the race for the season 51 prize of $1 million.

A self-described superfan, Nguyen said the sight of people turning out to watch with her still catches her off guard.

“I’m almost shocked every time I go to a watch party and people actually show up,” Nguyen said. “I’m like, ‘Oh my God, you like it too?’ It’s that heartwarming feeling of someone is now taking this journey along with me.”

Watching the season unfold has brought a different kind of tension, too. Nguyen knows how things ended for her, but not how the other contestants got there. There are 20 other people on the show, each with their own stories and experiences.

“I’m kind of anxious watching it every week,” Nguyen said. “I’m just as excited watching it with everyone, because yeah sure, I know some results, but I don’t know the journey in which how it gets there.”

Two friends from high school, Nikita Marquardt and Kenzie Thomson, came by to support her. Marquardt said she did not realize how deep Nguyen’s love for “Survivor” ran before the show, but now it fits.

She also thinks Nguyen has the tools to go far because of her intelligence and charisma. Still, seeing a friend on television is its own strange experience.

“I was just showing Kenzie TikTok edits I’ve seen of Thien An,” Marquardt said with a laugh. “It’s super freaky, I do not like it.”

For Nguyen, the best part of the whole experience has been sharing it with the people she brought into it. She said the support from family and friends meant everything as they kept showing up week after week.

“Seeing the support visualized in front of me, it means the world,” Nguyen said.

“Survivor” airs Wednesdays on CBS.

TCU Offense Faces A Brutal Test Against Surging Baylor

TCU heads to McLane Stadium on Oct. 17 needing a reset, and the matchup comes at a tricky moment. Baylor has opened 4-1 overall and 2-0 in Big 12 play, while the Horned Frogs are 2-3 and still searching for a conference breakthrough. The contrast is clear on paper: Baylor has paired efficient offense with steady defense, and TCU has shown enough between the lines to move the ball but not enough to cash those drives in when the competition has stiffened.

The Horned Frogs have run into trouble turning production into points against Power Four opponents, which makes this trip a demanding one for an offense already trying to find its footing. Baylors recent surge adds another layer to the test, because the Bears are playing with balance and confidence on both sides of the ball. For TCU, the challenge is not just keeping pace, but proving it can finish possessions against a team that has been far more complete in conference play. [Read more 🡒]

Baylor Has A Real Chance To Pull Away From TCU Again

Baylor comes out of a bye week with a chance to put some real distance between itself and TCU in the rivalry race, and the setup is favorable for the Bears at home after a strong previous win. The Horned Frogs, meanwhile, are trying to steady an offense that has been inconsistent for weeks, and the trip to Waco arrives with enough concern up front to make the matchup feel even tougher on the road.

For TCU, the challenge is as much about survival as execution. Baylor will be watching closely to see whether its quarterback can keep the offense on schedule, while the other side of the ball is focused on getting consistent pressure on the Horned Frogs quarterback and creating takeaways. If TCU cannot protect the pocket and clean up its recent offensive issues, Baylor has a clear path to turn this into another frustrating afternoon for the Frogs. [Read more 🡒]

Baylor Faces Its First Real Big 12 Test Against TCU

Baylors trip to Fort Worth lands at an important spot on the Big 12 calendar, with both programs trying to sort out where they really stand in a conference that has already started to separate into tiers. The Bears are getting their first real test against TCU, and for the Horned Frogs it is the kind of matchup that can tell them whether they are ready to climb back into the league race or still have more ground to make up.

TCU enters with little room for error after an uneven start to conference play, and this one carries more than just the usual rivalry edge. A strong showing would give the Horned Frogs a needed boost in both confidence and standing, while a setback would only deepen the pressure as the Big 12 schedule moves deeper into October.
