TCU receiver Dozie Ezukanma spent three days in the hospital after an alleged locker room attack by teammate Jacob Fields left him with a brain bleed and a concussion, according to a Fort Worth Star-Telegram report Monday that cited an arrest warrant affidavit.
The affidavit says Fields, who was dismissed from the team on Aug. 18, allegedly punched and kicked Ezukanma in the head during a locker room altercation. It also says Fields was upset because Ezukanma had been outplaying him in practice.
Ezukanma told authorities he was unconscious after the assault and does not remember what happened. He also said he and Fields had been "going hard" in practice, per the documents.
The affidavit included a text message apology from Fields to Ezukanma.
"I made an emotional decision cause how I felt I played the last few practices," Fields wrote, per the report.
He also said: "I’ll pay every hospital bill and then some to make this right.”
Fields was booked into Tarrant County Jail on Aug. 30 on an aggravated assault charge, according to booking records, and later released on a $50,000 bond, per the Star-Telegram.
Fields had been expected to open the season as a starter in TCU’s secondary after transferring from Louisiana Tech, where he was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year in 2025. Ezukanma, a junior receiver, was also projected to be a major piece of the Horned Frogs’ offense this season. He did not play in TCU’s 15-10 loss to North Carolina in Dublin, Ireland, in the season opener.
