TCU returns from its bye week with the season hanging in a familiar kind of tension: enough talent to make you squint at the possibilities, but not enough offensive consistency to trust what comes next. That’s the setup as the Horned Frogs head down I-35 for the annual Revivalry against Baylor on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT at McLane Stadium.
The standings tell you plenty. TCU sits at 2-3 overall and 0-2 in Big 12 play after dropping its first two conference games.
Baylor comes in at 4-1 and 2-0, riding a four-game winning streak. On paper, that gives the Bears the clearer edge.
In a rivalry game, though, the comfort level never stays put for long.
That uncertainty is reflected in the KillerFrogs staff picks, even if the majority leaned Baylor’s way. Eleven staff members picked the Bears, while three went with TCU. Every TCU pick had the Frogs winning by seven points or fewer.
Aiden Reed went with Baylor 27-14.
JD Andress picked Baylor 20-13.
Ryann Zeller had Baylor 24-17.
Tom Burke selected Baylor 27-13.
Tori Couch went Baylor 24-10.
The logic behind those picks was rooted in the same concern: TCU’s defense has a chance to keep things competitive, but the offense has not shown nearly enough punch. As one prediction put it, “TCU’s defense should keep this close, but the Frogs have averaged just 11 points against Power Four opponents. Baylor has won four straight and enters with the more productive offense, so I’m picking the Bears to make one more scoring drive at home.”
Another staff view had a similar tone, noting, “I think TCU is going to look better after its bye week, but I don’t think the offense will create enough positive plays to win. The defense should stand out, though, and give Baylor’s offense some problems.”
A third forecast leaned on the possibility of a strong defensive showing but still doubted the offense would supply enough help: “It’s hard to find much belief that TCU wins this one without the offense finding a way to finish drives and establish some consistency. If Lagway plays like he did against Arizona State, it’s a tough matchup. But if he plays like he did against Auburn, the Frogs’ defense could make him pay.”
Other staff picks circled the same themes - a defense that can hold up for a while, an offense that still has to prove it can finish, and a Baylor team with enough balance to control the game if TCU doesn’t find rhythm early. One pick put it this way: “TCU continues to struggle on the road.
If the offense can’t put together quality drives, the Frogs’ defense will be worn out by the second half. Baylor’s offense has a well-rounded approach and could ultimately control the entire game.”
Another said, “If TCU finds an offensive rhythm, we could see a completely different outcome, but we have yet to see signs of one. Baylor blew out Arizona State on the road before the bye week and has the momentum.”
And one more forecast kept the emphasis on the opening stages: “TCU needs to start strong in the first half. Otherwise, coming back will be difficult, especially on the road. Baylor has a decent defense that could limit TCU’s rushing attack.”
The staff confidence chart has Seth Dowdle sitting on top at 4-1 entering the Baylor game. Everyone else is either 3-2 or 2-3, which is probably not the kind of separation anyone wants to brag about for long.
There is at least one thing TCU can point to heading into Waco: history. The Horned Frogs lead the all-time series 60-54-7 and have won nine of the past 11 meetings. That doesn’t solve the offense, but it does give TCU something tangible to carry into a rivalry that rarely behaves like the records suggest.
For the Frogs, that matters. This season has already pushed the optimism around the program around quite a bit, and a win here would be a clean way to put some of it back in place.

TCU Just Sent Baylor A Message Fans Needed To See
TCU walked out of McLane Stadium with a 17-6 win over Baylor, and it was the kind of result Horned Frogs fans have been waiting to see in this rivalry. Baylor had won four straight in the series, but TCU leaned on a defense that set the tone early and kept the Bears from ever finding much rhythm on offense.
Koron Hayward was a constant problem in the backfield, helping pressure Baylor throughout the night, while Jaden Craig gave the Frogs enough balance on offense to control the game. Craig connected on key throws, including a long strike to Jordan Dwyer, and finished with two touchdown passes as TCU improved to 4-1 against Baylor under Sonny Dykes. [Read more 🡒]
Baylor Fans Still Havent Forgotten These Revivalry Gut Punches And Highs
The Revivalry has spent plenty of time living up to its name, with Baylor and TCU trading blows in games that have shaped the modern feel of the matchup. From Robert Griffin IIIs 2011 showcase to the tense, back-and-forth meetings that have defined the series in recent years, the rivalry has been built on the kind of pressure-filled moments that stick with fans long after the final whistle.
Baylor supporters still have reasons to circle this one every season because the stakes never seem to stay ordinary for long. The Bears have been on both ends of the drama, including some especially cruel finishes and a recent breakthrough that reminded everyone just how thin the margin can be between a breakthrough and a gut punch in this series. Baylor Still Has One Harsh Problem After Rivalry Loss
TCUs latest trip through the Revivalry offered a little of everything the Horned Frogs needed after a rough stretch, and the defensive side set the tone early. The new offensive line setup also gave TCU a different look up front, though the group still had its hands full in run blocking and had to fight through tackles for loss and sacks while the game tilted toward a low-scoring grind.
Baylor, meanwhile, had to sit with the bigger problem that can linger after a rivalry loss: there was not much room for offensive rhythm against a TCU defense that kept making life difficult snap after snap. Hayward was a major part of that pressure, finishing with five tackles and three sacks, and his impact helped make the Horned Frogs return to the win column feel a lot more decisive than the final score alone might suggest.
