Former Aledo and TCU quarterback Hauss Hejny’s latest run with Colorado State hit a snag Saturday, when he left the Rams’ game against BYU in the first quarter with a hamstring injury.
The issue came on a rollout out of the pocket at Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins, and Hejny first headed to the medical tent before trying to return. He got back in for a couple of plays, but Colorado State ultimately went back to another quarterback.
After BYU’s 41-23 win, CSU head coach Jim Mora confirmed the injury was to Hejny’s hamstring, according to the Denver Post.
“It wasn’t precautionary,” Mora told reporters. “We don’t do that.
If a guy is cleared to play, we play him. Somebody asked me on the radio if we were saving our players.
No, we don’t save our players. We try to win every down.
If he was ready to play, he would have played. [Hejny] is a guy that he needs to be able to move around, and he didn’t have that mobility.”
Before the injury cut his day short, Hejny was efficient in limited work, going 6 of 10 for 80 yards and a touchdown.
Once he exited, Colorado State couldn’t keep pace, and BYU rolled to a 31-7 halftime advantage. Through nine quarters with the Rams, Hejny has accounted for 10 total touchdowns.
How long he’ll be out remains unclear. Mora described the injury as “not a big injury,” according to DNVR Rams.
Colorado State’s next game comes on the road against UTSA, with kickoff set for 11 a.m. Friday.

TCU Heads Into Big 12 Play With One Encouraging Shift
TCU closed non-conference play with a 31-7 win over Arkansas State, and while the result never really came into doubt, the Horned Frogs still had a clear mix of good and not-so-good to sort through before Big 12 play begins. Jaden Craig gave the offense a lift by completing 21 of 27 passes for 337 yards and three touchdowns, but the attack also showed some uneven stretches, and the front seven had trouble consistently getting to the quarterback.
The most encouraging part for TCU may have been on the back end, where safety Jamel Johnsons return from injury helped stabilize the secondary. The Horned Frogs also cleaned up some of the self-inflicted issues that have hurt them at times, drawing fewer penalties and showing better discipline overall, a useful sign as the margin for error gets much smaller in conference play. TCU Just Got The Encouraging Tune-Up Fans Needed Before Big 12 Play
TCU got the kind of non-conference finish it needed Saturday at Amon G. Carter Stadium, rolling past Arkansas State 31-7 and leaving with some real momentum heading into Big 12 play. Senior quarterback Jaden Craig looked sharp throughout, throwing for 337 yards and three touchdowns while completing more than 70% of his passes, and the offense showed the kind of rhythm the Horned Frogs have been searching for.
The best sign for TCU may have been the way the passing game kept building on itself, with connections improving and receivers making plays all over the field. Sophomore Ed Small was among the notable contributors, and the defense backed it up by shutting out Arkansas State in the second half, a clean stretch that should give the Frogs some confidence as the schedule gets tougher. TCU Is Improving Fast But One Big 12 Concern Still Looms
TCUs first quarter of the season ended on a high note with a 31-7 win over Arkansas State, a result that pushed the Horned Frogs to 2-1 and kept the early momentum moving in the right direction. Sonny Dykes has seen enough to know the team is better than it was in September, and there are signs of that growth in the play of quarterback Jaden Craig and receivers Ed Small and Kari Ashley, along with a run defense that has held up even after losing NFL talent.
Still, Dykes has been clear that progress is not the same as being ready for the full Big 12 grind. The Frogs are improving fast, but the standard inside the building is a much higher one, and the next stretch will show whether the early gains are enough to make TCU a real factor in the league race rather than just a team on the rise.
