Hauss Hejny’s first start for Colorado State looked less like a debut and more like a full-blown arrival.
The former Aledo and TCU quarterback carved up Wyoming for 214 passing yards, going 23 of 33 with five touchdowns in Colorado State’s 35-13 win at Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins, Colorado. Hejny also added 39 rushing yards on seven carries, giving the Rams plenty of production from every angle.
He even made his mark as a receiver.
On a trick play, Hejny picked up 28 receiving yards after powering through two defenders and a defensive pass interference to haul in a highlight catch. That sequence set up his first touchdown throw of the day and Colorado State’s first score as a Pac-12 member, a quick 6-yard pass after he rolled right.
Hejny kept the same rhythm going throughout the afternoon. He showed comfort outside the pocket again on his second touchdown, then waited for the right chance to attack deep and delivered in the third quarter with a 57-yard strike.

By the fourth quarter, Hejny had his fourth touchdown, firing a wide receiver screen to Jackson Harper. Later, with the game already decided, he finished his day by rolling right once more and hitting RJ Vick, who caught his third touchdown of the game.
The win came in the 118th meeting between Wyoming and Colorado State, a Border War matchup where the winner takes home the Bronze Boot.
Hejny joined the Rams out of the transfer portal in January after previously being at Oklahoma State. He had won the starting job there, but a broken bone in his foot in the season opener ended his 2025 season before it really started.
At Aledo, Hejny was a central figure in two Class 5A Division I state title runs and arrived as a four-star recruit. As a senior, he earned Star-Telegram Offensive Player of the Year honors after throwing for 2,773 yards, rushing for 1,041 yards and accounting for 40 touchdowns.
Colorado State went 2-10 last season, including 1-7 in Mountain West play, and Hejny is expected to be a major part of the program’s push to stay competitive in the Pac-12. ESPN projects the Rams to win 2.5 conference games this season.

Curt Cignetti had plenty of reason to sound confident before Indianas game against North Texas, and the former TCU quarterback backed it up quickly. Josh Hoover, now leading the Hoosiers offense, threw four touchdown passes and finished with 231 passing yards in Indianas 52-16 win, giving the transfer a strong first impression in his new setting.
Hoovers debut also came with a jolt that went beyond the box score. He took a hit that left him dealing with a nose injury and sent him through concussion protocol, briefly putting the focus on his availability instead of his production.
