The Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office has now filed an aggravated assault charge against former TCU safety Jacob Fields, according to court documents.
Fields, 21, is accused of punching and kicking wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma in the head on Aug. 13 inside the football team’s locker room. According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Ezukanma spent three days in the hospital with a brain bleed and concussion.
Fields was dismissed from the team on Aug. 18 and arrested on Aug. 30.
Prosecutors filed the complaint against Fields on Wednesday morning, Sept. 23, after reviewing information sent over from TCU police.
Fields’ agent, Phillip ‘Red’ Miller of PM3 Sports, said in a statement after the former safety’s arrest that Fields turned himself in voluntarily.
The affidavit says Fields was upset that Ezukanma had been performing better than him in practice before the assault. Ezukanma later showed police text messages from Fields apologizing and saying he wished he could undo what happened.
“I made an emotional decision cause how I felt played the last few practices,” the texts said. “I’ll pay every hospital bill and then some to make this right.”
Fields’ attorney, Coby DuBose, said the team’s coaches were aware of tensions and failed to step in before things boiled over into a locker room fight. DuBose also pushed back on the affidavit’s claim that Fields sucker-punched Ezukanma and then kicked him in the head after he fell.
A source inside the TCU football program disputed DuBose’s version, and athletic director Mike Buddie said in a statement that the coaching staff handled the situation the right way.

BYU's Hot Start Just Got Overshadowed By A Very Strange Bear Bachmeier Story
BYUs undefeated start in 2026 has already put Bear Bachmeier in the spotlight, and his profile only grew during the Cougars Week 2 game against Arizona. Late in the broadcast, Fox Sports analyst Robert Griffin III brought up a story Bachmeier had shared about his familys unusual dinner routine, turning a routine game telecast into one of those moments that immediately spread beyond the scoreboard.
The remark landed with enough force to overshadow the action for a stretch, even though neither Bachmeier nor Griffin has addressed it further since. For a quarterback who has helped fuel BYUs hot opening run, it was a bizarre detour from the usual conversation about wins, momentum and what comes next, leaving the story hanging in a way that feels almost as unusual as the anecdote itself. UCF Opens Big 12 Play Facing An Early Test They Cant Dodge
TCU heads into Big 12 play after a needed bounce-back win over Arkansas State, a game that featured encouraging signs from Jaden Craig and Ed Small as the Horned Frogs steadied themselves at 2-1. The trip to Orlando now gives Sonny Dykes team its first conference test, and it arrives against an UCF group that is in the same spot record-wise and has already shown it can lean on the run game when needed.
UCFs win over Georgia State came with Duke Watson helping power the ground attack and Keyone Jenkins handling the offense while Alonza Barnett III remains sidelined by injury. Scott Frost and Dykes have both spent the week talking about where their teams are and what this matchup means as the league schedule begins, which only adds to the sense that neither side gets much of a warm-up here. TCU Football Is Building Something Bigger Than Wins And Losses
TCU football has been leaning into a different kind of team-building this fall, one that reaches beyond meetings, lift sessions and game planning. Through Victory Calling, a program co-founded by Nate Guyton, the Horned Frogs are working to strengthen peer support and mental fitness among players, giving teammates tools to recognize changes in behavior and check in when something seems off.
The effort is meant to complement the mental health resources already in place, not replace professional care, and it reflects how much college football asks of players beyond Saturdays in the fall. For TCU, the bigger goal is simple but meaningful: build a culture where community, leadership and compassion help players carry the weight of the sport and everything that comes with it.
