Before Game 4 of the World Series even got going Tuesday night, David Ortiz had already had a much rougher start to the day than anyone on the FOX Sports set.
While the Milwaukee Brewers chased a sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays, FOX host Kevin Burkhardt revealed during the pregame show that Ortiz had been caught in an elevator earlier in the day.
“Things not going well for the Rays, and things just not going well in Tampa in general,” Burkhardt said. “We had multiple people on our crew get stuck in an elevator, and Papi, you were one of them today. Good to see you made it.”
Ortiz, the former Boston Red Sox star, told his side of the story in his usual blunt style.
“Twice, not once, twice,” Ortiz responded. “I got stuck in an elevator.”
Alex Rodriguez then jumped in and asked whether Ortiz is claustrophobic.

“Not really, but I was kind of getting worried at some point,” Ortiz admitted. “You know?
But I got out. I'm here.”
The broadcast crew also leaned into the Milwaukee-to-Tampa storyline from the series opener, when one of the hotels used by the players was rumored to be haunted. Derek Jeter brought that back into the conversation with a line aimed at Ortiz.
“The ghosts followed you from Milwaukee, man,” Jeter told Ortiz.
Ortiz fired back with a laugh.
“Maybe. A lot of people from Wisconsin here. Somebody probably brought them on the airplane,” Ortiz responded as the guys shared a laugh.
Game 4 was scheduled for 8 PM ET in Tampa Bay.

Rays Kept Their Season Alive But Game 5 Just Got Tougher
The Rays kept their season alive with a 12-inning win in Game 4, trimming Milwaukees series lead to 3-1 and buying themselves at least one more chance to keep this thing going. Nick Martinez was a big part of the rescue effort, giving Tampa Bay two scoreless innings on the kind of short turnaround teams usually try to avoid, while the bullpen handled the rest of the heavy lifting in a game that demanded just about every available arm.
Kevin Cash made it clear afterward that the victory came with a price, because getting through an extra-inning playoff game meant leaning hard on pitchers the club may need again immediately. Game 5 now shifts from a simple elimination test to a planning exercise for Tampa Bay, with the staff having to sort through who can still answer the call and how far the Rays can push the group that just helped them survive. Rays Keep World Series Hopes Alive After Wild Extra-Inning Escape
The Rays were staring at the end of their season in Game 4 against the Brewers, and instead got the kind of chaotic night that can swing an entire World Series. With multiple lead changes and big relief innings from Nick Martinez and Bryan Baker, Tampa Bay kept itself close long enough for the game to spill into extra innings, where every pitch felt season-defining.
Ben Williamson eventually supplied the finish, lining the walk-off hit that sent the Rays home with a win and pushed the series to a Game 5. For a club that needed every out just to survive, the victory was equal parts bullpen grit and late-game nerve, the kind of escape that can change the mood of a series in a hurry. [Read more 🡒]
Taylor Walls Delivered A Defiant Rays Message After That Walk-Off Win
After Tampa Bays walk-off win over Milwaukee in the World Series, the Rays were in no mood to treat it like a moral victory. Shortstop Taylor Walls was asked by MLB insider Ken Rosenthal whether taking one game was mainly about proving the Rays belonged on the same stage as the Brewers, and the exchange quickly turned into a peek at the tone inside the clubhouse.
Walls pushed back on the framing and made clear the Rays are thinking bigger than simply trading punches with a highly regarded opponent. Tampa Bay has plenty of respect for Milwaukee, but the message after that win was that the series is not about proving they can hang around. It is about continuing to compete with the belief they can still take the whole thing. [Read more 🡒]
