Philadelphia is acquiring San Francisco Giants hitter Luis Arraez, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, in a deal that also reflects the club’s busy stretch of roster activity.
Passan broke the news on X, formerly Twitter, writing, “BREAKING: The Philadelphia Phillies are acquiring second baseman Luis Arraez in a trade with the San Francisco Giants, sources tell ESPN,”
Arraez arrives after a strong season with San Francisco. He’s hit .324, which ranks second in the majors, and has added four home runs, 43 RBIs, 136 hits, also second in the majors, and an .801 OPS. Matt Gelb of The Athletic noted that the move will “prompt an infield realignment” for Philadelphia, since Arraez wants to keep playing second base.
The full trade package also includes relief pitcher Caleb Kilian going to Philadelphia. In return, the Giants receive starting pitcher Ramon Marquez, the Phillies’ No. 4-ranked prospect, along with relief pitcher Marty Gair.
The Arraez deal comes as the Phillies continue to sort through their deadline plans. Philadelphia also made a separate trade for New York Mets pitcher Brooks Raley, and more moves could still be coming before the 6 p.m.
