Rays Defense Collapses Again In Brewers Series Loss

Rays' defensive woes continue as errors lead to another series loss against the Brewers.

In a tough outing against the Brewers, the Rays found themselves struggling to keep it together, culminating in an 8-2 loss. This marked their second consecutive series loss to kick off the season, a rough start they haven't seen since 2018.

Drew Rasmussen, as expected, delivered a solid performance on the mound. Returning to Milwaukee, where his MLB journey began, Rasmussen pitched five innings and allowed just two runs. A homer from Brice Turang in the third inning tied the game, following an error by Junior Caminero.

The Rays initially grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third, thanks to a two-run homer by the red-hot Yandy Diaz. Richie Palacios, batting ninth, was hit by a pitch, setting the stage for Diaz's blast off Brewers' fireballer Jacob Misiorowski.

However, the Rays' defense faltered. Caminero's three errors tied a team record, and the eighth inning saw more mishaps.

Rookie Carson Williams, who entered as a pinch-runner, misplayed a ground ball. What was first ruled an error was later changed to a hit.

Then, Caminero dropped a throw on a bunt by Brice Turang, adding to the chaos.

Griffin Jax, who had already struggled earlier in St. Louis, allowed a two-run single to Christian Yelich, pushing the Brewers ahead 4-2. Mason Englert followed, conceding two more hits as Milwaukee extended their lead to 8-2.

The Rays have now committed errors in each of their first six games, racking up a league-high nine errors this season. With a 2-4 record, they're navigating a rocky start, hoping to tighten up their play as the season progresses.
